Some really good points in this post.
IMO a trophy hunters are people who only hunt for a big buck and will not kill anything but a big buck regardless of whether or not does are legal. In addition they do not really care to eat the meat from the buck if they are successful. Some give the meat to friends and some donate it and for that I applaud them as someone is benefiting from the kill, but the ones that only kill to mount the deer and do not care about the meat going to waste are the people that most Non hunters dislike.
When they do that they are not helping to thin the herd and and they are not utilizing the animal. Unfortunately people are stupid and brag about their bad habits because they think it is ok and it spreads a bad image and the I agree 100% about the TV shows they preach "Trophy Hunting" and non hunters generally react poorly to them.

Webster's definition of trophy: something gained or given in conquest or victory esp. when preserved or mounted as a memorial . Take note of these 7 words when preserved or mounted as a memorial. so, by this definition, a trophy wife is not a trophy wife unless ...oh forget it......! To me, a trophy is something that you took great pride in achieving..... BH
So what you are saying is: What one man might view as a trophy, could be another man's headache? When it comes to deer hunting they all are trophies.... even the button I killed.

They are all trophies to me. I enjoy snacking on them little morsels called trophy tenderloins and trophy backstraps. I never knew a trophy could taste so good!
P.S. I also have a trophy stand up freezer that keeps them as fresh as the day they hit the back of my trophy pick up.

Awww...you can debate this till Al Gore runs for president. Each person defines trophy but we all know what is meant by trophy hunting, it is about antlers and nothing else.

I think I said that about 5 days ago...absolutely...and...I also think you can debate it till the cows come home but...foodplots are not for the health of the herd but to kill bucks, trailcams are not to get pics of "wildlife" but to help kill bucks...just like faster bullets, faster bows, better camo, complex range finders....I don't really see anything wrong with it but I'm a little confused why there is a debate about it. You want to get a buck and you're doing what you can to accomplish that...where's the debate?

I'm a meat, and mature deer hunter. It could be a 6pt with a 4.5+year old body standing beside a 140 inch 8pt that is 3.5 years old. Guess which one is gonna take a ride in the back of Ol'Mossyback's truck. The most mature deer is if at all possible. This is how I do it ,and don't really care who don't like it. I'm hunting legal and trying to improve the herd in my area.

I'm not sure if you were simply listing things hunters debate or that you actually feel that way Coach, but I always laugh when I read those types of opinions.

We hunters realize there are many different forms of "trophy" hunting, some good some not good. Some hunters that hunt for large, mature deer do everything right, managing the resources wisely while persuing their version of "trophy" deer. We hunters also realize the difference between that type of trophy hunter and the one that simply wants to exploit the resource and demand others (both the state agency and other hunters) help them in their exploitive persuits.
We hunters "get" these differences. However the non-hunting public doesn't. And I really don't know what to do about that.

What I don't like, and you can blame the TV industry on this one, is when people will kill a small buck and apologize about it. Be proud of whatever you harvest!
