I eat vey little deer meat personally, but none of my kills goes to waste. My brother and his family eat it all the time. I don't feel I shouldn't hunt because I do not care for the meat, as long as it gets distributed to those who will eat it. I would never kill anything that was going to be wasted or trashed, that is not right. I love to hunt small game, but have not done so in many years, because I don't like the meat and have no one to give it to.

I only harvest 2, sometimes 3 per season. My three children like venison-each have their own favorite way they like it prepared. If not I would just harvest one deer.
Sorry I don't do the HFTH thing.

I just don't understand how people can eat store bought meat and not eat venison. When I think of all the ways venison is superior to store bought meat it really boggles my mind!
1. Venison is healthier! High protein, low fat, no preservatives (unless you jerk it yourself).
2. A deer is a cleaner living animal than livestock from feed lots.
3. Deer are not shot full of medicines and steroids.
4. Venison is not laden with preservatives that lead to a host of health related issues.
5. Venison is handled by fewer people. Therefore, the chances are much less that some dirtbag fondled your food.
6. Venison actually has a taste! Many of the over processed meats found in stores are just saline and water injected muscle fibers and the taste has long since been bred away.
7. Deer are free ranging animals that eat healthier foods. They are not pre fattened for slaughter.

I am generous with deer meat, but also eat a lot. The key is not seasoning it properly, but not overcooking it. I've had it 4 times in the past week!

It's a great alternative to beef for those who have high cholesterol. My mom's doctor recently advised her to try and eat venison instead of beef whenever she could.
