Just solidified some plans last night to hunt in Missouri from Nov 4th - 9th this year. Have a buddy who is getting back into hunting and wanted to hunt some of his family's land. Supposed to not be very far from Springfield.
I've been looking at Missouri's harvest maps and they definitely kill the deer! Some counties were over 5,500 deer killed. He was telling me some stories that make it sound like it's over run with deer. Does anyone have any experience hunting the area? Opinions?

Best deer I ever killed was in Missouri. 12 point field dressed 252lbs. Scored 157. 3 of us could not load the sucker on the four wheeler. Have not had the opportunity to go back as of yet. Some big deer and huge turkeys

Alot more hardwoods and virtually no clear cuts in the part of Mo I grew up hunting. It just seems deer are easier to find in Tn more sign, trails, rubs

I've hunted N.E. Missouri a couple of times and they have some giant deer and alot of deer there but it is so much different that hunting here. The deer up there use the crop fields so hard and man they will bed anywhere! That was my biggest challenge it is so hard to locate their bedding area I mean they will freaking bed in a bush sometimes right by a huge block of woods!

I can only tell you this. If it is public land near Springfield, save your money and stay home. However, if it is Johnny Morris' place you are in high cotton. Private ground is fine. The public land up there sucks.
Trust me, I spent a week trying to see a deer. I would have loved to see a deer track.
Now that is not true of all public land in MO. There are some fine public areas. But they are not around Springfield. Or of they are, I sure couldn't find one and I was being guided by Bass Pro.

I've hunted 1300 acres private land in north central mo. It was mostly cropland and crp with some wooded draws. Very easy to see does, tons of them. Only saw four small bucks while I was there. The owner had five that would go over 180. I was bow hunting and it was my first trip there. It was a culture shock because I'm use to hardwoods. I made it a great scouting trip so next time I will have a headstart.
