I never have had a problem with "game harrassment". The simple fact is that everything harrasses game. other game does more than anything else. Most deer will just walk inside the woodline and wait for you to leave.

The problem with spotlighting is just this......rednecks and poachers.

If you legalize spotlighting of any kind, then the planes that fly around at night looking for these spotlighters have no idea who is spotlighting to kill or just to LOOK.

Just too much BS involved.......

How many rednecks do you know that own a cheap gun that they would be willing to throw in a ditch if they saw someone coming.....

I don't really care for game cameras, even though I own ONE.

I think that the mystery of what's on your property is a part of the fun.....

I don't particularly agree with shooting deer at night using a spotlight, but for it to be illegal to shine a light around YOUR own private property is border line communist.

I can agree with that.Crazy a person can't shine a light on thier own land.

I think it's more about "intent".

More times than not, when someone is shining a spotlight at night, then they are "shining to kill".....

Maybe put a time limit on it......say.....it is legal to shine a spotlight for two hours after sundown.....maybe even for four hours.....

Not many poachers out that early.....How would you feel if people routinely came by your home at night shining spotlights in your fields....?

Okay, how about this.............you can obtain a free permit to spotlight on any land that you live on or family owned property......not leased to farm or leased to hunt, but Land that you actually owned..etc. The location will be on the permit....

OR......if a farmer owns or even leases some ground where he keeps cattle, then he can get a free permit to shine on the property that his cattle is on.......again, the location will be on the permit.

that would stop road hunters and people riding around shining in YOUR backyard or on YOUR property.....

Just thinking...

BH I hear ya loud and clear. I will have to disagree with the second line in your comment though. In the past I've drove around my grandpa's farm(when we still had it) hundreds of times on a 4-wheeler carrying a spotlight in my lap just to look around and check everything out. Yes, I was looking for deer, coyotes, rabbits, etc. Did I ever intend on shooting anything? NO, not deer anyway . Several of my buddies and I still go out on their farms and shine spotlights around regularly with no intentions of ever shooting deer. I know a lot of people around here that do. However, I know the point you're making is that it's almost impossible for TWRA to differentiate between someone like me and a poacher so they have made it illegal to spotlight period. To which I think is seriously ASSININE!

I hear you as well......but......would you make spotlighting legal EVERYWHERE or just on your own property/family owned.

What about people riding down the road and shining in a field next to your home? Maybe they see a deer in your yard and shines it....next thing you know, we have people riding around at all hours of the night shining in people's front yards....

not a good idea , IMO.

We have ways of dealing with those folks round here in redneckville.

If it's ole jimmy(or other local dummy) from down the road and we catch him he will get an arse whooping.

If it's an out of towner we shoot at him.

Problem solved.

I guess that's one way of looking at it... \:D

Spotlighting does not harrass game any more than scouting or recreational wheeler riding, IMO. Do squirrel hunters harrass deer, ? sure they do.......any time man is out in the field, they pretty much harrass anything that they come in contact with.....

Again..........I have no issue with spotlighting on private property, but to turn every redneck in the county, that owns a pickup and a light, loose to just ride and shine will eventually cause problems..IMO.

Sometimes we have to go with the greater good.........

Sorry for making the assumption. I have just seen that some pro-baiters are starting to use this as their main argument. In know way do I or did I intend to offend anyone by assuming this.

I'm not for or really against...just wanted to express my opinion on foodplots and baiting...For instance in Michigan's Upper Peninsula where the winters are harsh and the deer die off from starvation in the heavy snows is great the DNR has stopped people from feeding the deer...I think they should allow them to supplement the deer's feed in harsh times.
