man has the need to control his surroundings.

if you plant food plots, then you are not doing it for the deer. You may say that, but in reality, you wish to bring deer to your property and hold them there. If you are doing it solely for the deer, then never hunt over the food plot.

The natural thing is that deer have survived well without man and will continue to do so. If food is not available where they are, they will go elsewhere. If you feed the deer, you are taking nature out of the equation. You are changing what the deer will do naturally to find food.

I can't understand why man always has to have his hand into everything.....

oh well.....

That seems like a ridiclous statement to me BH,man has our hands in everything. We have always done things to suit us as we figured out how.Like paved roads, few would give that up.Grocery stores, few will actually hunt and gather enough to maintain life anymore.

Whyh should it be different when we hunt.I bought land and put in food plots to attract more deer, hopefully to my place.Nothing wrong with that according to the TWRA.I planted them for me,yes I said it,to increase my enjoyment of the hunting experience. But while Im not hunting, the deer are hopefully benefiting from the food plots.

I believe you posted pics of one of your stands over looking a soy bean field this year, whats the difference.Maybe you didnt plant it,but that field was no more natural than my food plot,is it?

I think baiting comes from the idea that "I have to do something to influence the deer".

When I first started hunting, I was into all kinds of gimmicks. Minerals, bait, scents, calls, mock rubs.... Whatever I could do to try and up my chances of seeing an killing a deer I did.

There was always something out of my reach that was "keeping" me from the success I desired.
Cant plant food plots.
Other guy must be killing all the deer.
Some bozo walking around...
There are just no big bucks around....

What I was really lacking was knowledge. As I learned more and more about deer, and hunted more, it became apparent that you cant force a deer to do something it doesn't normally want to do.

That is when I started concentrating on learning woodcraft, learning about deer, and learning how to hunt.

Most of the gimmicks have limited usefulness. Yeah they may give you a 5% advantage in one particular instance or another, but all season long, nothing beats knowing your quarry, knowing the woods, and knowing good technique.

I don't bait don't agree with it at all. I do how ever plant food plots do the QDMA dill what I can afford. Yes all for the chance to kill a bigger buck and the benefits for the other deer. Don't see where a food plot is baiting the good Lord will let it grow or he want the big buck will come or he want. To me effort in a plot and just pooring something on the ground is total different and everything I do is geared towards killing the biggest buck I possible can. But, I enjoy ever minute I hunt and ever doe I eat.

We feed them, plant food plots, give then corn, salt licks, mineral licks and just about every thing else. Then they over populate. WOW.....Then......MOTHER NATURE steps in and guess what happens!!!
We all know the answer to that one.

No Wes, it wasn't less annual pressure. It was less annual food.

Yeah, the come fly over my house and crap on my truck.

All I know is that Walmart sells both corn and Bio-Logic in a bag. Both are used to pull and hold deer into an area. You can call it what you want if it makes you feel better. The biggest difference is that one is legal and one is not. That being said, I don't care one way or the other. The good new is that it would be impossible to make food plots illegal or farmers would have to go out of business. ;\)

P.S. It always seems that people always want "CHANGE". The sad part is that change is not always good.

Unfortunatly, imo....TWRA doesn't see it that way...

Oh yeah...put a corn pile on your property and hunt 200 yards from it. If there is any semblance of trail between you and the corn pile, GW has every legal right to ticket you.

And as far as you fellows saying "you don't hunt over your foodplots"...if you have them, they are attracting deer to your property and that is the point. I am not for baiting...but, I am not necessarily against it. I am saying that anything you do to attract deer is in the same category as baiting (when it comes to "lazy, unskilled, unwoodsmanlike" hunting - I can't testify to all the biological implications). Be it a grunt call, deer urine, decoy, food plot, corn pile, can call, or even equipment like a treestand, high-powered rifle, scope, etc. etc serve similar purporses. They are all man's way of tipping the scales in his favor in order to kill deer. Shoot, if you want to talk about an baiting being an unfair advantage...I think hunting with a high powered rifle that can kill one at 300+ yards is far more of an unfair advantage than a corn pile (imo).
