Michigan DNR is responsible for more than just the deer herd...After all it is the Dept of Natural Resources...QDMA is basically all about white tail deer. Seems to me the QDMA has been working with them for sometime now.

QDMA Mission Statement:
The Quality Deer Management Association (QDMA) is a non-profit wildlife conservation organization dedicated to promoting sustainable, high quality white-tailed deer populations, wildlife habitats, and ethical hunting experiences through education, research, and management in partnership with hunters, landowners, natural resource professionals, and the public.

Mission Statement
"The Michigan Department of Natural Resources is committed to the conservation, protection, management, usage and enjoyment of the State's natural resources for current and future generations."

In addition I believe we have a very poor governor in Michigan. In 2009 Jennifer Granholm tried to give the authority of the DNR back to the Department of Evironmental Quality and once it was given back she wanted to appoint department director. The Senate has has passed a resolution to stop it.

She has also robbed the coffers from hunting and fishing license money for other projects entirely non-sportsman/woman...She is definitely bad for the hunter

Yeah, Coach, the deal raised a few questions, didn't know. thought it might be of interest, though.
Politicians love getting their hands on hunting and fishing license dollars, I hear.

As a rule I've learned that Michigan holds no special interest for the tndeer site members unless it's a member who lives or has lived in Michigan and maybe rightly so. If I didn't have roots in TN and do most of my hunting there I'm not sure I would bother with what happened there either.

Sportsmen and women in Michigan will make sure there is a more conservative gov next time around I'm sure...Seems like I read somewhere that QDMA was started in the late 90's and has been working behind the scenes with the DNR for a few years now...

OK, tried to talk myself out of it but couldn't. I can plainly see this post was started with the intention of everyone bashing MI and QDMA. If TN had taken the same action, it would've been the "greatest development since sliced bread". (That was BSK's quote about Unit L)

Nope, I just posted it because it was about QDMA, deer hunting and a DNR. I thought it was kind of newsworthy for a deer-hunting site, in a look-around-and-see-what's-happening-in-other-states kind of way. And I did wonder if it might be a trend...dunno. I have always thought it wise and interesting to know what's going on management-wise in other states.

Other than that, no real matter to me.
I am sure not out to bash Michigan--a state filled with die-hard sportsmen.
