the only difference is the work...sure it's fun to get out there and work the plots and watch it come up...something Americana about that for sure and gives you something to do during the off season related to deer hunting...
I don't really have a strong objection to either honestly, it just feels like the bottom line is that baiting and food plotting are to draw deer in to shoot them.

Coach,
That is true and your point is well taken. But look at it this way:
Suppose I am not using biologic or tecomote seed or anything like that. Say I had a 50 yard by 50 yard tobacco patch. When it comes time to plow it up I put winter wheat in it. The winter wheat is out there to enhance the soil for next year but it becomes a "food plot" cause the deer start feeding in it.
I am like you, I don't have strong feelings either way but I do use food plots. Maybe I am just trying to justify them over using a corn pile.

I'm sorry..but, if deer really aren't that hard to kill then why the foodplots? I really think those that take such a strong stand on baiting and then post umpteen posts on food plots are hypocritical. Personally, I don't bait and that means I don't call it by any other name like "foodplot"....
In my opinion when you put in food specifically to attract and feed deer you are baiting. If I grow corn for the market and the deer get in it that's the nature of the business....If I grow biologic..well, there is no market for biologic, it's there to attract deer, grow bigger horns...and in the end shoot the the deer you are feeding. agree 100%

My food plots are for the overall heatlh of the animals on my property and to provide some diversity of habitat as well. I have not killed a deer off of a food plot in 5 years, and don't plan on doing it anytime soon.
There is no comparison b/w food plots and baiting in terms of benefits for wildlife.

Im with you Setterman. My stands are not around food plots. The first food plot I put out I killed a doe w/a bow in it one evening. The food plot was rarely if ever used in daylight hours the rest of the year. It was used at night. Also, I leave a border around the plots Ive planted. I've actually heard quail in the past few years.

I agree with you...that's why I said "specifically to kill deer" in my original post. Most farmers plant some type of cover so their soil erosion is less...not what I mean at all. I simply mean when the bottom line is to kill deer then it's baiting

I have to disagree with you again....if someone puts out a pile of corn to help the overall health of the deer and doesn't hunt over it...it's still baiting.

bw, not sure how to solve your problem and not sure if this is against the law, but purchase a paintball gun and a couple different colored paintballs. After that, let your imagination run...
