Coming back from church, I was very nearly run over by a 130" 9 ptr in front of the car. Luckily, I saw him break out of a 10 acre woodlot crossing an open field just before he got to the road, so I had time to brake and keep from plowing into him.
Crazy to think that this is the normal time for the rut here in Hattiesburg, MS! Also amazing that I live in the 'burbs of a town the size of Murfreesboro and these bucks can find and live in little 3 to 10 acre blocks their whole lives.

Ive been around Hattiesburg the past month, at Paul Johnson State Park right now. Its amazing how many deer there are here. Hunters running dogs like crazy in the Desoto NF too. I saw one giant 10 point probly 24 inches wide on top of a dog box on hwy49.

Holy cow Steven, that's a monster buck for that area. DeSoto has a ton of deer, but as you've seen, the extremely sandy soils are not conducive to antler growth. I've heard of a few big ones on Camp Shelby, living to a ripe old age on the 'no hunting' zones.
Dog hunting is insane on the NF. Dog season closed this weekend, so hopefully things will settle down during the ML rut hunt for the next 2 weeks. I'm sure the deer will be happy, since they've been run ragged for a month straight.
This buck was by himself in a small block of woods right across from my house. I suspect he followed a doe in there overnight from a larger block of woods 1/2 mile away, then got run out by the neighborhood dogs mid-day.
MS is in for another round of reg changes for next year. Currently there is a bill in the house which would move 1st ML from mid december to Nov 1, making gun season run from the Sat before Thanksgiving thru the end of January. Bow hunters would lose 2-3 weeks of exclusivity, and they're pretty hot.
Another addition to the proposal involves allowing DMAP properties to harvest does with rifles during archery only season. MDWFP is in full support of the proposal, hoping it will encourage the harvest of more does down here.
