I have been viewing this sight for several... several years now but have only been posting for just over a year.... In all those years I have seen guys always questioning others that do this for a living. Why is that? When it comes to Regs. and other laws, we always have guys that want to question the facts. I know its the American way to stand up for what you believe.... but when some guys are only hunting between 100 to a thousand acres, how can they tell guys studying the whole state what needs to be done...JMO

When it comes to Regs. and other laws, we always have guys that want to question the facts.
Just Human Nature for some. Some people have open minds and adjust their views to match the facts. Others believe their personal views are the facts and any evidence to the contrary must be wrong. So when faced with facts contrary to their infallable personal views, they must attack the facts.

the reason is that most don't care about state issues but more about their own backyard......
actually it makes sense simply because here in west tn. we have plenty of deer and others in other areas of the state seem to not have as many simply because they are always complaining about a lack of deer sightings.....
Maybe people question data simply because the data was not taken in THEIR neck of the woods....
makes sense to me....

Being one of those who questioned a ridiculous amount last year I can speak for why I did it. I did so, because I did not believe the data being presented to me. However, I took the time over the last year to spend an incredible amount of time with 5 others and do our own "study" of TN deer herd and deer harvests. We gathered a crazy amount of info, including trail cam pics from numerous locations, age data, etc etc etc. We found that the states numbers were spot on, and that the overall age structure of our herd was fine. Sure there could be more 3.5+ aged bucks, but the numbers aren't so low as to be alarming. Sure there are plenty of 1.5 year old bucks killed each season, but there is plenty left each year, and not enough are killed to have an impact on the overall health of the herd.
I really have no more hard questions for TWRA regarding the deer management. I personally would love to see it different, but my goals are a heck of a lot different then theirs, and would never expect them to manage for guys like me.

BH Good point BH...Because IMO,when you start catering to antler size and bigger antlers,you pretty much start catering to the rich folks. Because it would cause lease prices to sky rocket..
I'm by no means rich but I love hunting those racks and does for meat!

I approached Chaneylake one time about putting more restrictions on buck harvests and trying to make the club more of a big buck club. I referred to the increased amount of money he could demand from hunters if there were several 150 class deer coming off the club on a yearly basis.....
he declined that approach by simply saying that it wasn't about that.........I agreed.
The TWRA is like a big hunting club. Their goal is to provide the hunter with a healthy herd to hunt and a safe environment to do so. Any added restritions placed on the hunter (other than sex/limits/season dates/methods) should be done so by the hunters themselves.
Even if the limit was ten bucks per year, I doubt that I would take more than one or even two, during a good year.
After all, if you kill him this season, he won't be there for you next season.....
And I really like seeing nice deer AFTER the close of the season....it makes me look forward to next season even more OR if I don't hear about anyone killing a nice deer that I DID see during the season.....for the same reason..!
