You mean tradition such as "Jacklighting"? It is traditional for many people to hunt deer with dogs. Also, in TX in it very traditional to hunt over corn scattered across sendaro's (sp). There are a lot of traditions that you may have that others don't. I'm just saying, just because it isn't the way you hunt or I hunt, doesn't mean it is untraditional, lazy or wrong.

if its so bad then how come alot of other states do it Please list "all" the other states. You might be surprised at how few allow it. From what I could find on the net as of 2008: No Bait Allowed:Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Delaware, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Louisiana, Maine, Massachusetts, Missouri, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, New Mexico, New York, North Dakota, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Tennessee, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia, WyomingBaiting Allowed In Entire State:Arizona, Hawaii, Kansas, Nevada, New Hampshire, Mississippi, New Jersey, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Carolina, Utah, WashingtonBaiting Only In Selected Areas:Connecticut, Florida, Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Texas, WisconsinSo 22 states allows baiting. Actually ended up being more than I thought. I feel like if you dont agree with baiting or hunting over it, then dont do it. "IF" it was ever legalized, then it would be "your" choice to do so or not. Until baiting is legal I am against hunting over it. Once it is legal, then like any other form of legal hunting, I say have at it!
Half of that is wrong. SC does not allow bating in the whole state

[quote=BSK] I mean some will say a guy hunts hard because he spent a lot of time clear, discing and planting a corn field for hunting season but the same people would cuss a guy for pouring 50 lbs of corn out.I don't get it.And no I don't bait.I have never even put it out in the off season in front of cameras.Thats another thing I don't understand.
A lot of the same people who are the most aganist baiting becoming legal are the same ones who throw hundreds of lbs corn out during the off season.Go figure. If its bad for the deer then guys don't put it out anytime of year.
thats a great viewpoint. guy i work with does this - by september he knows every deer in the county. then when someone else kills a big buck he moans "they probably shot it over corn."

Deer hunting is not supposed to be easy. It supposed to be the epitome of woodsmanship skills learned over a lifetime of hard work and experience. Reducing deer hunting to pointing a weapon at a pile of corn is not the epitome of woodsmanship skill, it is the epitome of the lazy, I-want-everything-for-nothing society we have become.
If that's what you believe, why do you hunt out an elevated stand? Just go sell all those trail cams you have, never buy another trophy rock, learn to shoot a bow (had to throw that in), I can go on and on. If you're against it, fine, but come with something better than that. Don't preach woodsmanship, then get on here and show a pic of a 5 1/2 year old buck taken with your trail cam licking on a Trophy Rock with his belly full of clover from your food plot.

thats right. think of the opportunity this would present for these hunters so highly skilled - if baiting were legal - and you chose not to utilize it - then wouldnt that make the deer you did kill even more extraordinary. wouldnt that make you even more special?

State that 'do it' now are learning that it's bad and are stopping the practice - too much change of CWD BTB etc -
Beside -
You want to 'hunt' deer or just 'shoot' them - ??

Interesting posts for sure! Im not for baiting myself, but I could really care less who decides to hunt that way where legal. I have hunted many states, some legal and some not, and honestly there is absolutely no difference, and my hunts have never been affected one bit either way. I will say that if your argument against baiting is making the hunting easier and using it in place of woodsmanship skills, then we certainly do have many many more things at play that are doing the same thing, as mentioned above. Baiting will sometimes make hunting easier for the lazy hunter, but so will trailcams, treestands, top maps, etc. I think their are better arguments against it than it benefitting the lazy hunter IMO anyway!
