I didn't know people could catch it?? If that is the case, then Im in the same boat as you are in Mike..Unless they figure out an economical way to test the deer...I won''t be eating any of it,and that would suck.

heres a snippet from Colorado dnr Simple Precautions Advised
* Do not shoot, handle or consume any animal that appears sick; contact the Division of Wildlife in Fort Collins at (970) 472-4300 if you see or harvest an animal that appears sick. * Wear rubber gloves when field dressing and processing animals. * Bone out the meat from your animal. * Minimize the handling of brain and spinal tissues, and wash hands and instruments thoroughly after field-dressing. * Wash hands and instruments thoroughly after field dressing is completed. * Avoid consuming brain, spinal cord, eyes, spleen, tonsils, pancreas and lymph nodes of harvested animals. Normal field dressing, coupled with boning out a carcass, will remove most, if not all, of these body parts. Cutting away all fatty tissue will remove remaining lymph nodes. * Do not consume meat or organs from animals known to be infected with CWD. * Knives, saws and cutting table surfaces can be disinfected by soaking in a solution of 50 percent unscented household bleach and 50 percent water for an hour. Thoroughly rinse all utensils in water to remove the bleach. Afterward, allow them to air dry.
What Portions of Deer, Elk, and Moose Should Be Consumed?
Strong evidence suggests that abnormal proteins, called prions, cause chronic wasting disease in deer and elk. Research indicates that the prions naturally accumulate in certain parts of infected animals -- the brain, eyes, spinal cord, lymph nodes, tonsils, pancreas and spleen- relatively early in the course of disease, well before the animal is visibly ill. In later disease stages, abnormal prions also can accumulate in a wider variety of tissues and organs, including kidney, lung, heart, and muscle. Chronic Wasting Disease Testing Hunters can find out their test results online using the Test Results database or by calling (800) 434-0274. The toll-free number is available 24 hours a day. Using the head submission number on the test form, one can activate an automated response system.
For the most recent year's testing information, including guidelines, submission sites, locations and schedules, and a list of species, see Submission Site Information. Ongoing Research

The above post is good advice. Myself, I don't worry abut it. I won't eat the meat any animla appears to be sick. But as i understandit, a cervid can have CWD for as long as five years before there are any symptoms. As I understand it, the same is true for Mad Cow.
So do we stop eating meat?

Very rarely. I only shoot mature bucks and kill 1-2 deer per year. i will make a little jerky. we raised both purebre and commercial cattle for many many years would often put a beef in the freezer and bought a hog or 2 to process so no need to eat deer. Neever really liked the taste of it. Besides I prefer that any meat I eat be finished on grain and receive several doses of ivomec and tramisol.

Dang Redblood your missing some fine eating from them ol Backstraps when their done right, but to each his own, I understand. CWD is definitely no joke and I too dread its arrival here, but I think its inevitable and just a matter of 'when' not 'if' it gets here to TN.

If CWD gets here, I 1) won't eat any obviously sick deer; and 2) won't eat the brains or any other internal organs of deer. But the meat? As long as the deer shows no symptoms, sure I'll continue to eat deer. No known cases of human infection have occurred from eating infected deer.

I just had a brain fart!!! LOL If CWD is to our east in Virgina,I think it may have a hard time spreading west into TN.Because,of the mountains and the low population of deer in the MTNs...Which would make it harder for CWD to spread west..What you think?

I have seen what comes out of livestock that receive wormer. I am sure not crazy about eating anything that hasn't received wormer. I run like a girl away from any meat labeled "organic".
