Did that exact same shot with a patched ball back in '90. Deer dropped like a sack of rocks, then after 30 sec, he got back up with a shattered shoulder and made it to a thicket 50 yards away and bedded down. I reloaded a 400gr buffalo bullet and shot him after I jumped him from his bed to finish him off.

I recovered the round ball- it pancaked on the scapula, but nothing penetrated into the vitals.

Ouch!!

Several years ago, Right at dark, I had Just climbed down out of the stand and heard something coming so I crouched down beside the tree. It was 2 does and a 6 point walked right up on me. they hadn't seen me yet.

I raised and shot the buck. The does ran and he Continued to mull around like he was still picking off the ground. He still hadn't seen me and didn't act alarmed at all. I didn't know what to think other than I must have missed some how.

I shoved another shell thru and he looked right at me, still broadside, and I shot it again still at the same distance. He just stood there like he wasn't even hit. It was almost dark but I was close and couldn't see any blood or wound. It was freaking me out. He walked about 10 ft and stopped and looked back at me again, and I shot him a 3rd time, and he stumbled a bit and slowly went down. I walked up to it and it was still alive looking me, and I shot if a 4th time.

Turns out All shots were lung shots within 8 inches of each other. All bullets passed thru. I dont know if it had to do with me being so close and the bullets weren't expanding, but that was the wildest thing I've ever seen

If that is the entrance side I would think that has to be an arrow.

Maybe it was a gun, and the entrance is on the other side and high up on the back, and the angle made it a total miss of vitals

Got pics of the other side of this deer. There are no marks at all on the other side. Could have been an arrow but i think it is a MZ because of the nature of the wound, there is no sign of a cut in the middle.

Nice picture. What kind of luck have you had with your Wildgame Innovation camera? I bought one last fall (2.0) and it worked fine all the way up to Christmas, then it stopped taking pictures. It would still flash, but wouldn't actually take the pictures. I sent it back to the manufacturer on 1/12/10. They still haven't sent me a replacement yet. I called last week and they haven't logged my return number into the system yet. That scares me a little that they may have that many returns.....I was tickled with it up til it messed up.

It could be from causes other than hunter. I don't think that wound could have been from an arrow...unless it was stopped by the shoulder and eventually worked itself out. A pass thru with a bullet and it would be a dead deer. The bullet could have deflected off the shoulder, but the wound looks to clean for that and the deer does not appear to be standing on a broken shoulder.

Maybe it was a cyst or insect bite that got infected?

I dont think its a bullet or arrow wound either, looks more like maybe an infected tumor of some sort. She's got another place just above and left of that one.

I had 2 of these cameras. One 2.0 I got at Wal-Mart and a 4.0 IR I bought at BP. The 2.0 got to where it was not taking pictures and it sounded as if something insid of it was broken. I looked it over and found that one side where you put the batteries had a piece broke off on the bottom and would not make contact with the battery. I returned it to WM. The BP 4.0 IR is still working good and it seems to be able to take more pictures and go longer between battery replacements. I have 2 other cameras that use 6 in one and 4 in the other D cell batteries that don't last as long as this one that uses 4 C cells.

I thought it might have been done by an undercharged ML or one with wet podwer that did not have enough energy to break her down. I don't really know but if I can kill her next year there may be some clues as to what this is!!
