Another PVC Feeder question

I got the stuff from lowes last night to make my feeder, but was thinking about how to get it up off the ground? Do you think a rachet strap would hold it to the tree and not allow it to slide back down the tree? I don't want to screw or nail to any trees..This is the plan that im useing..I can't tell in the pics provided how they have it attached to the tree.

IMO the best way to use a ratchet strap would be to make two slots in the pvc on each side and "thread" the strap through them where the strap is laying against the part of the pipe that is touching the tree. Like a belt going thru a holster..If that makes any sense? You could do this with about 2-3 inches of pipe left above the slots and it shouldn't interfere with your corn at all. The problem I see with a ratchet going around the pipe is that even though it is ratcheted, it still leaves some room for slippage. But yeah, a ratchet strap is probably MORE practical in this case, it would be much easier to move if needed.

That makes sense Johnny..Kinda like 2 slots 1 on each side..Do you think water would be able to get in through those slots? Or just make them very small..

yeah I wouldn't give the strap much breathing room there. I'd make them as small as possible, very thin. Rain shouldn't be too much of a deal with that small of a slot, but I would definitely seal it up with some camo duct tape or 100 mph tape if you can get some from an Army surplus. When you go out to fill up the corn just take your roll with you, just in case it needs touching up. It shouldn't with the 100mph tape.

How about a rope attached to the top of the feeder, can probably just slip knot it around the top if there is a larger collar and a ratchet strap or cord around the bottom to keep er snugged up to the tree.
With the rope over a limb, you can easily lower it for a refill.

just put the strap around the feeder and get it tight then put a log or something under the feeder to keep it from slipping down.That way it will still be water proof.pretty simple.

This is one I made out of 8"pvc got it out today, hopefully it will work well. It holds 150lb of feed.

I might try that brick idea,but then I might also put a big lagg bolt or screw in the middle of it and put the rachet strap under the bolt then tighten it down,that way the bolt won't let it slide down..Either way,i'll get it up..IM short 1 cap to finish the one I made today..I've got enough left to make 1 more,But i need 2 caps and a 90 degree fitting...Im gonna get that tomorrow,and need to camo it..I'll get yall some pics when I put it out.

We used to feed the deer all the time, but have eased off of that the last couple of years.
But when we did it, you want to put a rock or place it on a root of the tree where it can come out. Not too high and not to low. Oh, and all we used to put it on the tree were coat hangers...they worked great...3 or 4 of them from top to bottom. It was cheap

Cecil, I've used them just putting a piece of brick or flat rock under them. Works fine. Leave enough room for feed to come out.
