I was still in college, and had only killed two or three deer to that point, and at lunch I mentioned to my dad that I rarely shot at a moving deer. In fact, I very seldom shot at anything moving, other than rabbits. (Didn't duck hunt and pheasants were getting very rare.) He told me to just lead him and use my instincts.
That afternoon I saw a legal deer slowly moving through the brush and snow, from my left to my right. He stopped broadside at about 75 yards. I drew a bead with my 12 guage and sent a slug on its way. The slug sailed over it's back, and it took off running. I levelled the gun on its tail, swung through its body and squeezed the trigger as the bead cleared its chest. The deer crumbled and left a bright red streak in the snow as it plowed forward a few yards and slid to a stop, with a perfect boiler-room hit.

I have two. 1st was a deer drive on a juvy hunt many years ago. i was posted on a corner when three does broke out heading across a big bean field. I had a borrowed 300 mag with a 12 power scope. I lead the first bang and dirt flies in font of it. I lead the second one and dirt flies in front of it. then i said self quit leading them. One bullet left and i put the x on the last ones nose and bang. She dropped like a sack of potatoes. Hit dead center shoulder. We stepped it off at 310 steps.
2nd one i was in a tall ladder stand watching a grown up pasture when an 8 point comes out running a doe at a point i had already ranged at 288 yards. I had about 8 seconds and went into auto pilot. The gun came up and on the shooting rest and found the top of the shoulder and bang. He trotted about 4 steps and went down. I was pumped.

Shot a 9 point several years back that was 275 yards from me on the opposite mountainside from where I was. Just happened to catch a little glimpse through the treetops and could see 4-6 inches of his neck. Dropped him on the spot.

My biggest buck I had to thread the needle with the pressure on. Had a 2" hole between 2 trees just as the guys were coming on the 4 wheeler to pick me up. I had been looking at the deer for over 5 minutes, with no clear shot due to the other 4 bucks in the bachelor group. When he finally cleared them, all I had was that one tiny window with shoulder and front leg visible at 80 yards. I could hear the 4 wheeler coming, and the buck had stopped on alert. The 4 wheeler pulled up to me in the shooting house about 15s after I shot!

Two come to mind. One was a 130 class deer at 185 yards on the dead run. The other was a 5X5 bull elk at 325 yards across a canyon. I put two an inch apart right in the boiler room.
No way I should have taken either shot.
Best and stupidest bow shot was a bull caribou on the dead run at about 30 yards. I felt I could do it and I did. Perfect double lung. Stupid thing to do but back then, I was bullet proof. I also killed one standing dead still, broadside at 54 yards. But I could make that shot every day.
Just dumb.
