On a Whitetail deer. I am not talking about the longest shot, but
it could be. Mine was a 9 point 140" buck in 2005. The distance
was only 40 yards, but it was in very thick cover with a small
pocket to shoot thru. I could see a doe moving along and looking
back. She stopped and twitched her tail a few times and then her
tail stood straight out. About 5 seconds later I heard another
deer coming.

The doe started to move forward and I saw a huge rack on the
other deer. He came to a sudden stop with a 6" opening exposing
his ribs. I put my cross hairs on the spot and pulled the
trigger. The time elapsed from the time I saw the receptive doe,
until I pulled the trigger on the buck, was about 8 seconds.

Shot a doe at 48 yds with my bow once that was by far my best shot. Had been practicing alot that year and she walked into the spot and i let it fly for a double lunger. It being 8 degrees that morning only added to the thrill.

With a rifle.....deer running across a field, stopped him with a whistle, dropped him in his tracks at a 125 yards with a quick offhand shot.

With a bow....got busted by a nice eight point while at full draw. He was at 35 yards, but I didn't have a clear shot. After a 3 minute staredown he finally stepped forward and I put the pin on him for a clean dbl lunger. But my arms and nerves were both jelly after that long staredown at full draw.

3 come to mind. Two in one day with my bow. threading the needle in some very thick stuff, one of those shots a fellow tndeer member said it looked like I turned my bow sideways like a cross bow to make the shot. The other one that day right after that contorting my body to slip an arrow over limbs and between ribs. All happened in minutes.

Last one during bow season on public land. Spot n stalk on some turkies. They were in some brushy stuff cutting off vitals. Only shot would be if they lifted their head. A hen did and I cut her head almost of with a broadhead, shortest tracking job ever.

Probably the first shot I took with my bow.We saw some deer in a hedge row,Greg went south,I went north,I had the wind!Heard one blow, here they come,I ducked behind a big tree,1st one button,2nd one button, third one samall doe,Im about to bust! Then a big doe,let it fly, donkey kick, she ran about 25 yards. That was cool.

Second would be the 10 point Im looking at on my wall, doe had me busted, she was ready to go!The buck was way to my right, couldnt turn enough to shoot w/o busting her out of there. So,shot him left handed!About 75 yards!I had done it 3 0r four times before, off a rest, but never out of a climber.

In my mind the tough shots are made when the pressure is on, no matter the distance.

Ft Campbell 150 yards 12 ga Hornady SST. 150 yards in the woods is a very long shot for me with a shotgun. Then add the pressure the deer walking away and knowing 1 more step might put him out of range, stopping him and did I mention he was 30 inches bigger than anything I had ever killed. I had to calm myself down a couple of times before I squeezed the trigger on him.

LBL 25 yards with my bow. I had 140 inch 13 point @ less than 10 yards and getting ready to hit the release when he smelled me and spun around and ran out to 25 yards. He stopped for just a second I hadn't taken my sight pin off him. I made a split second decision to take a severe angling away shot. Hit him between the hip and the last rib. He went less than 100 yards.

I agree, Love them shots. Challenging but ethical shots with a bow are fun, fun, fun. That is why I practice them often.

In 2006 I was running late in the morning getting to my stand. When I entered the field to head towards my stand I noticed a nice buck with a doe at the back of the field. I started heading their way and when I got to the area they had been in I jumped the bedded doe and the buck busted out of a nearby thicket. They both took off running across the bean field and I shot 3 times offhand with a bolt action as they ran away. I ended up hitting the buck 2 out of 3 shots and when I walked up to the buck I discovered he was a mid 150's 11 point that I had a couple of trail cam pics of. The shots were around 100 yards.

I was still in college, and had only killed two or three deer to that point, and at lunch I mentioned to my dad that I rarely shot at a moving deer. In fact, I very seldom shot at anything moving, other than rabbits. (Didn't duck hunt and pheasants were getting very rare.) He told me to just lead him and use my instincts.

That afternoon I saw a legal deer slowly moving through the brush and snow, from my left to my right. He stopped broadside at about 75 yards. I drew a bead with my 12 guage and sent a slug on its way. The slug sailed over it's back, and it took off running. I levelled the gun on its tail, swung through its body and squeezed the trigger as the bead cleared its chest. The deer crumbled and left a bright red streak in the snow as it plowed forward a few yards and slid to a stop, with a perfect boiler-room hit.

I have two. 1st was a deer drive on a juvy hunt many years ago. i was posted on a corner when three does broke out heading across a big bean field. I had a borrowed 300 mag with a 12 power scope. I lead the first bang and dirt flies in font of it. I lead the second one and dirt flies in front of it. then i said self quit leading them. One bullet left and i put the x on the last ones nose and bang. She dropped like a sack of potatoes. Hit dead center shoulder. We stepped it off at 310 steps.

2nd one i was in a tall ladder stand watching a grown up pasture when an 8 point comes out running a doe at a point i had already ranged at 288 yards. I had about 8 seconds and went into auto pilot. The gun came up and on the shooting rest and found the top of the shoulder and bang. He trotted about 4 steps and went down. I was pumped.

Shot a 9 point several years back that was 275 yards from me on the opposite mountainside from where I was. Just happened to catch a little glimpse through the treetops and could see 4-6 inches of his neck. Dropped him on the spot.

My biggest buck I had to thread the needle with the pressure on. Had a 2" hole between 2 trees just as the guys were coming on the 4 wheeler to pick me up. I had been looking at the deer for over 5 minutes, with no clear shot due to the other 4 bucks in the bachelor group. When he finally cleared them, all I had was that one tiny window with shoulder and front leg visible at 80 yards. I could hear the 4 wheeler coming, and the buck had stopped on alert. The 4 wheeler pulled up to me in the shooting house about 15s after I shot!

Two come to mind. One was a 130 class deer at 185 yards on the dead run. The other was a 5X5 bull elk at 325 yards across a canyon. I put two an inch apart right in the boiler room.

No way I should have taken either shot.

Best and stupidest bow shot was a bull caribou on the dead run at about 30 yards. I felt I could do it and I did. Perfect double lung. Stupid thing to do but back then, I was bullet proof. I also killed one standing dead still, broadside at 54 yards. But I could make that shot every day.

Just dumb.

My first deer ever was an 8pt off hand @ 150yd from the ground with small window through brush. one i will never forget.

How about worst. The biggest buck i ever saw was that same year it came out @ about 800yd i stalked in to about 500yd which i never shot that distance.took shot & he just looked up & walked away. i went to check for blood & found a button buck i didnt even see -lung shot-. lesson learned dont shoot unless you know you will hit your target.
