I've heard of someone going to the courthouse to find the owner of land so they could ask permission to hunt it. Is anyone familiar with this practice? If so, what info about the land do you need?

Look for a plot map of the county. You will need to be able to tell what plot of land you a looking at. If you are real familiar with the area you might could look it up on here:

How do you get the parcel numbers? I know nothing about this.

Here ya go. These maps will give you every type of info you need about the property, contact address, acreage and even what type of sub-floor the building has. Sometimes they are somewhat difficult to use and if you have problems shoot me a PM and i'll give you my number and walk you through it. Here are your links.

Marshall county does not have one like these. For the most part only the larger counties have the gis mapping done.

Good idea.Usually the tax assessor can help also at the county courthouse.

Some counties have an assessors web site. Shelby and Tipton does. Some of the more rural counties might not have them. But they should have info you are looking for.
