The CWD posting got me to thinking...Over the years I have killed and eaten several deer that were blind in one eye. I actually think a doe that I shot several years ago was blind in both eyes.
I always assumed that they were probably blinded by either fighting or limbs. Are there any diseases that cause blindness in deer? If so would the disease affect the meat?

Yes deer can go blind from diseases just like humans do. Also any kind of trauma can cause a deer to go blind. Just like humans, one small piece of cholestrol or any kind of heart disease can blind an eye within a few minutes.

Deer blind in one eye is not at all uncommon. Blind in both eyes for obvious reasons-they don't live long. Deer, just as it is with humans cam lose their sight from a variety reasons. One the major fators is viewrectitis.
