The QDMA has released their 2010 Whitetail report. It can be downloaded at http://www.qdma.com/pdfs/WhitetailReport2010.pdf . I haven't had a chance to digest it yet, but the first section is an evaluation of various states' manangement programs. Should be good for starting some discussions here.

Let the fun begin...

OK. Here is a summary, Tennessee earned 1 (one) point out of a possible 20. Among the eleven southeastern states, we had the third highest percentage of 1.5 year old bucks harvested, the lowest percentage of 3.5 year old bucks harvested, and the lowest percentage of does harvested. Statistics are based on 2008 harvest data.

The one point we achieved was for percentage of WMU's at goal (whatever that means). Maybe someone can shed some light on that. Seems like a self-reported statistic based on a self-established goal. Kind of like giving yourself a performance review.

Looks like a pretty poor report card to me.

I wouldn't be too quick to blame TWRA IF the report is accurate. I would think we need to do a better job of educating hunters in our state. Where did QDMA get thier numbers from? The only reliable source would be TWRA I would think.

The report says that the numbers were provided by each state's wildlife management agency.

I personally do not think other states gather near the information about deer harvests that TN does. Miss gathers good data from their DMAP programs, but other then that I really do not know how they would have good accurate info to pass on. I also do not know how Bama would have data either, along with KY.

QDMA should be nonbiased, but you never know anymore it seems everyone has an agenda to push forth.

The report appears accurate to me.

Although I have no idea where they got their WMA information.
