I would love to, and actually intend to, take a Safari to Africa before I get too old. I am mainly interested in the dangerous game, but would also like to kill some of the larger plains game. Zebra, Giraffe, Babboon, are a few that dont really interest me. I know its way too expensive but I am still considering it.

Winchester-The dangerous game are expensive. The cost of killing one is a small part of the cost. I assume you are talking about Cape Buff, maybe elephant or rhino. It costs one thing to kill one. Then three times that to get them back to the US. Then a tremendous taxidermy fee. For example an elephant may easily cost you $20,000 for just the permit.
A plains game hunt is relatively cheap, maybe $4000. Now add in airfare and export and taxidermy. You just spent $15,000.
I would like to hunt lion and leopard. I was offered a free hunt to do so. I figured it would cost somewhere around $30,000 for the free hunt. Do a lot of research for the hidden costs. Talk to a lot of people who have been. Also be aware, almost all African hunts today are high fence.
Make sure, when you book a hunt, just what it includes. Don't get over there and find out you have to buy the permits. They don't call it the dark continent for nothing. We are not living in Ruark days.

The three top things in Africa I want to shoot are: Lion, Zebra and Gemsbuck... If I can scrape the money up I will also shot a elephant... and a hippo (on land, not shooting one in the water but they are good lion bait)

I still have a lot of homework to do, but I would love to go and will if at all possible.

Last year at the NWTF show, there was an outfitter there with their brochure (20 pages +/-). I got it because my son like the pictures of the lions and such. It had prices of the hunts and trophy fees and it was "crazy" expensive. I could send my son to college for 4 years for what some of them would cost.

My buddy went over there three times in the 80s, when he was making a giant pile of money as a commodities broker during the Reagan years. One of his hunts cost about $5,000 for the hunt, kill fees, and airfare. The taxidermy bill was $12,000.

Not true from what I have researched.
