This will be my first season turkey hunting and was wondering what are some good decoys? I've looked at a ton and just can't make my mind up. I also, honestly, do not know what "kind" to get, should I get a jake and hen, tom and hen, a hen, etc.... Just pretty lost any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks

I used a Buckwing hen decoy by herself for years. She alone has been the death of many toms and I still often just use her. I got the B-Mobile a couple of years ago and trimmed down a gobbler fan to make it look like a jake. I've really only seen two main types of reaction from gobblers with it: they either come in running or run the other way. It being your first year I would get a good hen decoy that has a good looking head. They work great in the open, but in the woods you probably wont even need one.

You might want to take a look at the decoys put out by Dave Smith Decoys. I purchased one last year and it is the most realistic looking decoy on the market. It is a hard body decoy and a little pricey. Last year I killed two Osceola’s off the decoy. Every time the hens come in on the decoy they start to peck on it. I have nine decoys at the moment and the Dave Smith decoy is the one that is in my truck the entire spring gobbler season. There is a downside to the Dave Smith turkey decoys unless the changed them this year. I had the decoy fall out of my truck last season on to the concrete driveway and the head broke off at the neck. I used some epoxy and glue it back on and it is good as new. I think if you shot the decoy by mistake it might shatter. That is the good and bad on Dave Smith Decoys. Question is “would I purchase another Dave Smith decoy?” Answer is yes, because they work well.

Man Stoner, those decoys look great ! My only issue would be that you couldn't fold them up. Its incredible how realistic they are though. Very nice.

Can't go wrong with a HEN

Some situations I have been in a Male Decoy will seem more dominant so burds wont work good, I have heard of gobblers running in to tear a tom decoy all to pieces but hasnt worked for me in the past!

I hunt with a feather flex jake and a She mobile hen. That is about it. Used the big struting gobblers but to much trouble for quick set up and movement. But I run and gun so that's my info.

Go with the jake mobile. I bought it last year and put a real jake fan in it and it was good enough to put three great toms in my lap. I also use the She mobile with him and I have to say that Primos has some great decoys.
