I have never been turkey hunting and everyone keeps telling me how big of a rush it is. I can't see how people can get so worked up over a bird, but I've got to find out for myself! I get the shakes when deer hunting and love it. I love to bow hunt, but should I try to take a turkey with a bow my first time?

Try to kill one with a gun first because it will be a big rush. Then try with a bow it is pretty tough, especially when not using a ground blind. All I can say is that turkey hunting is a big rush.

I promise you one thing..... You locate you a big ole tom in the morning darkness, sit by a tree and give him a few very soft yelps, he flies down after daylight not 40 yards from you, and begins to strut like there is no tomorrow and his gobbles resonate through the stillness of the morning..... you give another soft yelp to get his attention and hopefully break his strutting.... then you pull the trigger and he flops...... you will feel the rush..... a rush you have never felt up to that point..... you will love it!!!!!

I am a hard core deer hunter, and i would very seriously consider dropping deer for turkey if it had to come down to just one. The only way i get the same excitement from deer hunting is with bow.

I also like being able to 'make it happen' rather than sittin in a stand for hours upon hours.

You would probably be better off with the shotgun since its your first go at it. Turkey hunting is very exciting, especially when you have one heading your way gobbling every step. I would give up deer hunting for it and not think twice.

I thought the same thing my whole life. My grandpa's farm was absolutely infested with them, but I never took interest in hunting them because I figured if they're stupid enough to follow me on the hay rake then they can't be that hard to hunt. I only got to hunt them on that farm 1 or 2 times before we sold it and since then I've hunted a few other public places and have fallen in love with it. Once you call up your first bird you'll be hooked.

I hunt from a pop-up, and try to bring em to me, but its still a huge kick!! The weather is turning nice(and warm!), the season includes seven weekends, and the limit is four gobblers! And you still make dumb mistakes, which adds to the kick. Twice last season, I had hens lead gobblers into the valley of the shadow of death. One of which was five longbeards in line behind one hen, which walked by me at 5 yards , and which was coming to my decoy. A judas hen! And on and on and on. Great experiences in a great sport. You'll love it!

Try to take your first one with a bow. I am sorry but i had to get up from the floor i was laughing so hard. If you like to fish dont go. I have carried a few people on there first turkey hunt it is absolutely hillarious to watch them when there first gobbler gets close. I thought my wife was gonna hyperventilate.

Seriously it is great but it will take all your time in the spring. If you want another hobby to rule ahead of all the others then go for it. There is nothing like it.

Wait until you got a few under your belt before you take your bow, you'll need to work on controlling your breathing and shakes ect.before attempting to get one with stick and string, although I've been turkey hunting for 22yrs and still can't control them sometimes lol

ut thought the same thing about a bird myself ,, nothing like a big buck,, however it is a rush being able to comnunicate unlike a deer,, fun once you learn how,,, wish deer were as easy as them once located,, It will be fun,, missed one with bow last year,, go with gun first...
