My Son Tyler has a buddy that is eat up with being in the outdoors, problem is his dad is in Texas and they do not have a very good relationship. Dalton really wants to hunt and fish with us and so starting this weekend it starts. He needs to learn gun safety and woodsmanship skills.
Saturday we will sight in the .22 rifles and I will teach him gun safety and what I expect from him. Before the end of squirell season we will go out and try our luck at hunting them. Then we will get ready for turkey season. Fishing will be right around the corner and then we will prepare him for a Hunter Education class. Something tells me I better count on my .270 being used this year by Dalton. I guess I better prepare to bow hunt all next year or buy another rifle.
Many times the missing element with kids is a mentor. Dalton will get a fair shake of the outdoors if he wants it and I am sure many good lessons along the way. Wish us luck as we embark on a new challenge and hopefully some memories we will all have for eternity. This like others will be a good year.

Thats awesome Rich, and you will be blessed as well for taking the time to treat this young man to such a wonderful part of life that many kids never get to experience. I wish you all luck and I know you will have a great time in the journey you are about to start!! I have gotten to the point of enjoying the time I spend outdoors with my kids so much, I cant even imagine anymore not having them to share all the experiences with. I am also very very lucky in the fact that my Dad also is a part of much of our outdoor activities, which is just icing on the cake and he loves it as well!! GOOD LUCK and have FUN Rich!

richmanbarbeque,
My hats off to you sir, there is nothing greater than PASSING IT ON.... May you be blessed for your acts. You will be a fine mentor to the young man, that's for sure.

Your actions now may have just determined wether Dalton becomes a punk or a contributor to society...I would have said honest politician but we all know there aint none of those.
