Never seen a 2.5 yr old wallhanger but i guess there are some around somewhere.
this one is hanging in the living room

trophies are in the individual's mind. that is his biggest to date.

If you had a choice would you shoot a nice 3.5 year old 7 point (small horns) or a 2.5 year old 10 point (wall hanger)....
Seriously, I'd probably just enjoy seeing how long I could watch them, and choose neither. But I have many times chosen to harvest an older buck with smaller antlers instead of a younger buck with larger antlers --- many times. So if forced to shoot one of those in your example, it would be the 3 1/2 yr-old one.

When I was your son's age, ANY buck was a "trophy" to me.
So I'd add that over time, most of us will probably change our individual minds regarding what we consider a "shooter" buck for ourselves.
