For all of you that process your own deer. What brand grinder do you guys use? What hores power? What brand mixer?
Does anyone use the kitchen mixers with the grinder attachment? I had a cheap grinder from Wal-mart, but it burned up. I ordered a grinder from i-kitchens, I ordered a VillaWare V5267 Elite Electric Meat Grinder,3/4 horse. A buddy of mine has had one for many years and never had any problems with it. The problem is I ordered it before Thanksgiving and it is on back order from the manufacture with no projected delivery date. So I may cancel this order and order a different one from some where else. This grinder was on sale for $194.0 Regular price is $400.0. So should I wait on this grinder or is there a grinder out there that is same hp at about the same price?

I use a kitchenaid mixer with a grinder attachment. It works.
But be ready to make a career out of it because it takes FOREVER.

+1, Works great and doesn't take long either. They aren't cheap but I'm only 1 or 2 deer away from breaking even on mine vs. processing fees, I just bought it last year.

I contacted i-kitchens yesterday and it is still on back order. But for the price I don’t think I can beat it.
The buddy of mine has had his for 20 years.
I killed 12 Deer last year and I processed half and had the others processed at three different processors in and around Memphis. And all my meat was gone by deer season this year.
I killed 10 this year and had processed all but what I needed ground. I took parts of deer to 3 different processors, the cost for just having deer parts ground was as much as having a whole deer processed.
Right now I have 9 front shoulders,2 necks, 2 rib cages, and various other parts at a processor in Millington, being ground. I will let every one know the cost when I get the meat back.
I agree that a grinder (any grinder) will pay for it self, if you have the time to grind your own.

Most of my buddies take theirs to the processor and they always say they don't have the time to do their own. When I look at the time I spend driving back and forth to the processor, dropping off/picking up, etc, I'm not out much more time at all doing it myself, if any. I'm also much happier with the meat when I do it my way.

I been thinking about getting one of these, its a band saw with a grinder built into the side. My dad used one like this years ago to make sausage. Ain't no telling how many hogs went through that thing!!

ibfishin,
That bandsaw Grinder combo will work great for some. And thanks for the link.
I debone all my deer then cut out the main muscle groups then cut into steaks, roast, stew meat or jerky. The trim meat from that and the front quarters I grind. Some of the ribs I keep to cook some I trim out to grind. Some of the necks I keep to cook as a roast, some I trim out to grind. I did look at the saw grinder combo befor decideing on the grinder I have ordered. But I don't figure I would use the saw that much and as big as it is the rest of the year it would be in the way somewhere.

I had the grinder attachment for my kichen aid mixer works ,but terribly slow on the second grind. I got a 1 horse LEM grinder for my birthday and it is MUCH FASTER!!! ,but alot heavier and takes longer to clean. with that said I would much rather have the LEM .

we already had a Kitchenaide mixer, so got the grinder attachment for around $45. It works fine, but I let it cool down after about 10 pounds of meat. It gets pretty warm. Been using it for about 4 years and haven't had any breakdowns.
