Like many on here and in my area, this deer season has been very interesting. I had more vacation days saved this year for deer season than most years and logged many hours in the stand especially in November with deer sightings way lower than normal. I killed two does during bow season and let quite of few small bucks walk but the sightings went way down after that. I did have a chance during Thanksgiving week and blew a chip shot on a good buck so I couldn't complain. I actually fished more than I hunted during Christmas week due to the fish biting and not really being motivated to hunt.

I spent a lot of time this year trying to kill a few deer that I had on trail cam. One eight in particular had been around all year although there were two bigger deer that I would get pictures of ever so often. I had tons of daylight pictures of the eight before bow season but after that he became a ghost. He would only show up about every two weeks in the middle of the night. I spent a lot of time trying to kill these three deer during the rut with no success. I actually went a month without getting any pictures of them and figured they all may have been killed somewhere else. However, about a week ago the eight showed back up with a couple of daytime pictures.

I killed a doe on Saturday evening at another spot which was actually the first deer that I have ever killed in the snow. Three of us went and each killed a deer. It was a good day.

I hunted mid morning on Sunday since daylight pictures of the buck were late in the morning to mid day without seeing a deer. I actually stood up and said to myself "you win for this year." I really had no intentions of hunting there Sunday evening since evening sightings had been next to none for the year. I was going to close out my season in another spot. However, I decided to close it out where I had spent most of my time and give myself one more shot at one of the bucks. He showed up about ten minutes before legal shooting light which was the first time that I had seen him since seeing him in my hay field back in the summer. He should have waited ten more minutes. \:D The only bad thing is that he broke about a six inch G2 down to one inch sometime since he showed back up. I won't complain to much though.

To make it even sweeter, I have been packing my 30-30 quite a bit the last couple of years trying to kill a good buck with it. I have killed quite a few deer with it including my first but not a good buck. I have killed some does with it the last few years but seemed to never have it with me when I got a shot at a shooter. That changed Sunday as well. I actually enjoy carrying it with me since it is a lot lighter than my 30-06 and 7mm and most of my shots are under 100 yards. It did some major damage to this deer.

I have yet to pull the jawbone on this deer to see his age but pretty sure that he is 2 1/2. I could not make up my mind this summer and fall whether he was a really good 2 1/2 or average 3 1/2. It was hard to tell in the pictures. (Some of the pictures make him look 1 1/2 due to his kneck being stretched out from hanging over night and him loosing a ton of weight during the rut. He is a min of 2 1/2 though. I know now not to hang one by the head if taking pictures the next day. :D)

Should make a good Euro mount and a deer that I will remember for a long time. To kill him the last minute of the last day with my 30-30 after the season that I had thus far, means a lot.

(Sorry for the long post, I am still excited.)

Don't apologize for the long post or your excitement. What a great post.

To kill a doe on Sat and a buck (and one you were hunting) in the last minutes of the season is just fantastic.

Last, your boy in the camo is a great picture. Sometimes it is hard to believe the stuff, our stuff, that is still hanging around our parents house. I'm sure we will be the same way! \:\)

Congrats on a great last weekend of the season!
