Found the same type bed yesterday. Actually it was 4, I believe. On the edge of a field surrounded by creek bottom. I figure they were does and probably watched me walk in. I have found that a lot of deer bed where they can see danger.

With the snow on the ground it was a great time to scout. I learned a lot. Like you...I found some promising bow hunting spots that I can't wait to hunt in Sept. Also learned that it your shootin' sticks have nails in the bottom of them they need to be pointed away from you!

There is nothing better than scouting right after season has ended! cause you can see so much more during late season

These old mature mtn bucks around here wouldnt be caught dead (literally) walking down a logging road during daylight! I have yet to see one use them when the does fawns and young bucks walk them consistently! I learned this the hard way many many years ago after finding all the buck sign, rubs and scrapes strung along these old travel corridors, and thought man this will be easy! 100 hours of trestand time later I had yet to see a buck older than 2 1/2. More and better scouting finally revealed the fact that these old bucks parallel these on the downwind side in thick cover!

I got out and scouted some new public land up here around Louisville. Learned a lot. I think deer bed in the open more when the leaves come off and during the fall they are actually in the thick. I did find some of the best spots about 40-80 yards away from logging roads and also keyed on some secondary points too.
Biggest revelation for me, few deer walk points all the way top to bottowm. Most of the time there is a place where they like to fall off a point and cross to the next one.
