before it effects mortality. I mean they are not as equiped as northern deer.

I guess what Im trying to get at is I know that deer metabolism slows in winter but with frozen ground and browse will the single digit temps and below zero wind chills for 4 or 5 days have a impact on their health
|

We are not even close, it would have to stay below zero for months for it to have any impact. Food abounds even when we think it doesn't.

They're tough critters. I would think with the rain this summer, they have pleny of natural browse to get them through any kind of winter TN can throw at them.

couple feet of snow crusted over the top 3-4 inches real hard in a big overbrowsed yarding area being preyed on by yotes 24/7
dont think that would happen down here very much they will be allright i bet.

The only thing the snow will do in TN is make the black panthers easier to be spotted. With the million or so game camera pictures taken this year across the state the number of black cougars being filmed is growing exponentially.

Significant winter mortality in the far north is more linked to excessive snow depth than temperature.
