Question ? I'm no real hard core turkey hunter but with the number of turkey I've see and heard about do we need more turkey allocations or what ever. Seem they are kinda getting out of hand. For sure at BW house.

We have a serious problem in this area. The real problem being, these birds are living in subdivisons and there is no safe way to shoot a cannon net. They just aren't very accurate.
The only solution, as I can see it, is to educate people to quit feeding them. Let me tell you how bad it is. One of my neighbors built a pen for his grankids to play in to keep the turkeys from attacking them looking for food. A few days ago, using a slingshot, he was shooting cherry bombs into the flock to scare them off.
The day will come when vigilante justice will take over.
See, the thing is, because these birds are being fed, even though it is legal, you can't hunt them because it would hunting over bait. If we could shoot them, they would stop coming in to the food. It is the only reason I can think of for legalizing bait. And I am opposed to baiting. I would like to see it illegal to feed wildlife.

X2 I'll bet there are 2000 from Bairds Lane to my house. I know there has to be 350 in the three flocks on Bairds.

Bowriter...are you putting food in your yard?
If not, then there's no bait. Shoot em!

Tons and tons of birds for sure. Drove through a field with 18 longbeards in one field yesterday. Lets up the limit to 6!

Moondawg-you better read up on the law. If shoot one of these birds going to or coming from someone feeding them, it considered baiting and that's all these birds do. Half the idiots around here feed them.

We kinda worked on the yotes last year. I haven't even heard one in a few months. One of my neighbors shoots pretty well and I know a thing or two about calling.

I'll be happy to take them if TWRA will let me...
I bet you could rig up a net over bait and just drop it on a flock of 20-30 at a time, load em up in pillow sacks, and it's only 30 min to my farm from Lebanon.

A couple years ago down in Columbia, a farmer called the TWRA to come in and capture a large group of jakes that would come in every morning and fly up on the fence railing and start flapping their wings to scare off the horses so they could come in and eat up all the sweet feed themselves. TWRA didn't believe them til they came in and saw it themselves. They caught that group and restocked them in other areas away from there.

The deer hunting regulations for years protected does, until the deer populations grew.
I believe the turkey population has grown, so when we have liberal hen limits? The breast meat is delicious, so I think many hunters will be happy for a change in regs.

Not a problem for me...the turkeys aren't crapping in my yard.
Wasn't sure how the baiting thing worked on turkeys, though.

Had to move the boat. It was full turkey crap. Besides, you won't need a blind.

Hey its the same up here in East TN. From my house to Maryville about 14 miles on Hwy 411s its not uncommon to see 40 to 50. Hit the back roads and the count goes into the hundreds. My son and i drve by 4 fields on evening these are the actual numbers the best we could count,183,79,221,27,this is within 10 miles,oh and 162 deer.Had to buy a strike/ball base ball clicker to keep count. And you cannot get anyone to even talk about hunting.
