It all depends on the habitat. In the midwest, during the rut, a mature buck may travel three or four miles every night in search of a hot doe. He travels at night due to the open country. In thick cover a mature buck may not travel 400 yards.
A mature buck...or any deer for that matter, is only going to travel as they need to, to find what they are looking for. And BSK is right, as they get older, they travel less because the does come to them. But if the food source changes, they move as far as they have to.
I don't think the old buck that lived with me for almost eight years ever went more than 600 yards in his life. Soo what ever happen to that old big buck bowriter??
