Talking with numerous hunters every year and seeing/hearing about where they hunt in the county, I have come to a very simple conclusion to it all.
IMO, there is not one square mile where numerous deer DO NOT live or travel in Haywood County. Many large deer are taken every year within a stone's throw of major roads and human activity.
I challenge anyone to walk out in to any fields in this area and not find deer tracks, even in the city limits. My wife texted me one day while I was way out in the Bottoms trying to kill a deer and her text was simple..."There's a big buck in the field next to our house." My yard borders the city limits and there are houses all around me in every direction.
I'm not really sure what it's like in Middle and East Tn., but I do know that if you hunt in West Tn. and can't kill a deer, then maybe you need to seriously consider some other outdoor activity....
The simplicity of it is really overwhelming to me......
Go find some tracks and have a seat......patience is key.
Today's deer hunter has it better than most any other hunter has it. Most all of us complain most every year about one thing or another...The limits aren't what we think they should be, we need a size limit, the season is not laid out as we would like, and so forth. Do you think that maybe deer hunters are some of the most selfish hunters in the world....?
Many species are dwindling such as rabbits and quail (or have already gone below good numbers)and even duck hunters suffer some bad years due to nothing more than a lack of water.
But, deer hunters enjoy increasing numbers of deer every year. The liberal bag limits and the daily sightings of deer all around my hometown are enough evidence for me.
So..............unless you can come up with a better reason to complain than the reasons that we have now, then maybe you should go buy a pack of beagles or a Lab and take up some other type of hunting. One that will let you truly have something to complain about.

Yup! Just head out first thing in the morning after all of the snow has fallen. You will be amazed at the amount of tracks.
Now back when Bowriter first started, you had to go up hill both ways, in two feet of snow, barefooted, wearin' nothin but a fig leaf to go hunt deer. You would sit for a whole year and maybe never see a deer track. These kids today just don't realize how good they got it! LOL!
