With the majority of everyone's season either ending already or coming to an end, I would love to hear some of the lessons learned this year. I use this site to learn and learn and LEARN some more, so I value the posts I read on here and more than not, I try them out in the woods myself. So whether it be something you knew but forgot (and got a rude reminder) or something completely new to you share it with the others. Maybe its something thats got you stumped, and somebody can chime in. I just always find it interesting, and very valuable.

I was reminded not to hunt places you don't have confidence in. I hunted some new spots and the whole time I was hunting my mind was telling me I was wasting my time. I guess because deer movement was so slow for me this year, I abandoned my best stands in hopes of turning things around. I did find some productive places, but also found spots I have zero confidence in. Normally I would pack up and move, but this year made me try some crazy stuff. Looking back, I sort of feel like I wasted a season, but hopefully in the long run it will all pay off.

A wasp can still sting you after the first freeze.

I know this sounds crazy but i saw a pattern on deer movement that i never noticed before.

If i hunt my large farm one day and see lots of deer, don't hunt it the next day because i wont see anything.

If i hunt the same farm one day and see nothing,go the next day and see lots of deer.

Sounds crazy but it was like this all year. And i hunted 50-60 days this year and could see this pattern every time out.

Lots of lessons learned for me this year, my 1st year hunting.

-Dont rely on fixed stands. Now I have a climber and I love it.
-Dont use a ML during gun season (lost a 12pt at 30' due to misfire well into gun season)
-Does are tasty. Take more than two.
-Dont overdress for the trip in. Getting sweaty before sitting still for long periods inm freezing temps sucks.
