My father and I have hunted mcnairy since 1982 and have never had a season this bad. I know the woods are loaded with acorns but never has had this effect. We were wondering if EHD had effect on herd here locally. We personally do not like 2 week muzzy season with gun running continuous and then 2 week break over middle of rut either. Maybe its just one of those years?

SW McNairy would put you in Ramer or Michie. I have land in Michie that my son and I hunt. We have seen about the same number of smaller bucks but the doe are few and far between. Kinda makes you think they know the new rules on them.

We also hunt turkey, squirrel, dove....etc. Never saw signs of EHD but you never know.

Numbers are way down in and around the airport. saw less than 10 doe's this year and 2 smaller bucks. one of the bucks we found dead in our pond when we pulled him out he showed no wounds of any kind.

My father in law has 20 acres right outside adamsville. He has a 4 acre corn field that he left standing. They are literally deer tracks by the hundreds. They are hammering it with these cold temps, but he can sit there all down and maybe see two does in the daylight.

I have seen two nice bucks very few does. we hunt close to ramer. Just seems odd to go out to all our different stands and not see does or small bucks. Just seems like the numbers arent there. Will admit that the wind has been kinda brutal every weekend

You may have hit on something. MOST of the deer that we are seeing are during the week. I have a job that allows me a few opportunities to hunt during the week. Less hunter traffic. Fewer gunshots.

Do you think the deer have figured us out?! ;\) \:D

I hunt McNairy and it's been the worst season for me. McNairy lost 40% of the deer herd due to the disease. Saw a couple of spikes and a couple does Sat, but other than that not much. 1mph wind tomorrow and I will be out there. Best bet is the greenfields in the afternoon. The processor also said it has been a slow year.

your right they may have. we use to have a lot of pressure but hardly any now that paper company doesnt sell over counter. we have killed many 8 9 10 and even a 12 in last few years. before that we used to kid each other about the mcnairy county specials(spike ,3 , forks, and even the one horners.)

I always wondered if we were the only property in mcnairy county that constantly had one horn deer no matter how old they were. We can count on having 2 or 3 every year.

That reminds me of one of the funniest things I have ever heard someone say in the woods. I took a friend hunting 3 years ago that never gets a chance to hunt. It was agreed before we got into the woods that he could shoot the first deer that walked in front of him. (He wanted some meat)

About 30 minutes after the sun was up good, I heard him shoot. I called him and asked him what he shot. In a whisper that I could barely hear, he said "I think I just shot a Unicorn, are they in season?!" Hilarious at the time! \:D

It was a big bodied deer with one 8 inch spike.

We saw plenty of deer and buck sign this year on our place in north mcnairy. Got plenty of pics of big boys but did not get to hunt as much as we wanted to.

These do not include the current year's harvest numbers, because the season hasn't quite finished up, but...

Saw 2 doe yesterday. Slept in today.

My son insists that we are going in the morning. I hope they are moving early. Something tells me that neither of us will last long.

I'm proud of my son. He got up yesterday and hunted until about 9:30. He saw 3 doe and couldnt get a shot on them. Went back yesterday afternoon and missed a HUGE doe at about 200 yds.

We plan on going out this afternoon. This is going to be one of those "If its brown, its down" days! ;\)
