Well I hunted from the ground today. I found a good spot on a field edge that still had a little clover and green grass and the wind was at my back. At about 4:20 I hear some noises, kind of like some crashing and limbs falling. I turn to see a spike within 20 yards. I moved a little to get a better look and he stopped and looked my direction for about 5 seconds and then looked back behind him for about 30 seconds. He ended up coming into the field I was facing 20 yards to my left. He headed my way and got within 10 yards and saw me. He ran about 30 yards and looked back. I did the ole waaaaah and he looked, blew and took off. I thought it was pretty cool. Well I stood up. All I heard was blowing and running behind me. I was able to turn and saw a glimpse of horns. I couldnt tell how big or anything like that. He blew more than once as I tried to grunt him back to me.
My question is basically did I hear a possible fight between the spike and the other buck, and is my location burned. This is my first glimse of bucks since mz season.
Sorry for the long post, but dang I need some advice.
Also I didn't see any does at all.

Thanks. The spot is about the only green area left. I'm hoping they come back. I'll be back at it in the morning.

Don't know about the fight. But ALWAYS try to look where the younger bucks or does are looking when they do that "look back" move!
Many times that tells you to forget the one in front of you and try to pinpoint the one it's looking at back behind there. Before you make any movements.
Women and kids first! Bucks follow last.
Probably ruined that setup spot.
Maybe, just maybe.......might have luck moving a couple hundred yards back in the direction you heard them come from. (for an afternoon hunt) They might still come to that area but they would likely skirt way around your last position.
Good luck.
For morning hunt, I have no idea they may never show or might be coming from totally different direction.
I've had places that we ALWAYS saw deer when we hunted it, but you NEVER would see ANY in an aftwernoon hunt. Nowhere on that 76 acres. We finally just quit hunting afternoons up there. Some places just don't produce morning and evening.

Go back, they have to eat. If it was earlier in the season I would give it a rest, but you only have 5 or 6 more days.
I have seen some bucks sparing in the fields, even got a picture the other night.
Good luck.

I would definitely go back and try it again. You have nothing to lose at this point.
