So; yesterday my Ole huntin buddy, his son and I head down to the river. When we get there the farmer is shuttling soybeans from the back in a tracted tractor, which happens to run right down the levee past my buddies shooting house. We decide we can all hunt further inside the levee, so he and his son take the back shooting house where I normally hunt and I go to a new ( to me) tree stand further down river. I saw more rubs/scrapes/bedding areas than ever before in this new location. Anyway; I find the stand and settle in for a frigid afternoon. About 3:30pm it was like someone flipped a switch on to the ceiling fan. Wind started howling. I turned into a popsicle. I glanced at my watch at 4:10pm and think to myself, if anything is going to happen it'll happen from now until dark. Before the thought left my mind, this big bruiser walked out onto a sand ridge about 150 yards away. He slowly made his way to within 50 yards and I dropped him in his tracks. What a great way to start the new year and end the season. Thanks Papa Lou & Hop!
