Everyone is talking about this cold weather and how it slows down the deer. B.S., I got to thinking about the good bucks that I know of killed over the last 40 years, late in the season, and when the temps were below 15 degrees.
No, I don't have a graph or chart, but I am blessed with a long term memory. I remember seeing a 170+ buck killed in Maury Co. back in the mid 70's, on Jan. 1st. It was so cold, that the blood was freezing on the hunter's hands, as he field dressed the deer.
There are several more that I can remember, but the 170 stands out the most.

I wish starting around November ir would stay this cold I agree with you and I've hunted since 1976 My best deer have come on either nasty weather days or nice cold temps~~ I remember bowhunting one morning a few years ago and it was around 4 degrees and bucks were on the move big time. It was so cold that when I spit on the tree I was in, it froze within 15 seconds.

I don't think low buck movement at this time of year has anything at all to do with the cold. I think it has everything to do with the two previous months of intense hunting pressure. Old bucks have gotten old because they've learned to adjust their movement times and places once pressured.

If you had a place to get up high, and watch a broom straw field, that might be a great spot. They love that on COLD sunny days, they are hidden, but the sun is shining on them.

I too have had good luck and saw others have success as well when the mercury drops way down. The deer were really moving well yesterday morning for example, and my truck said 9 deg when we got out.

I believe deer move MUCH better with extreme cold, just in different places and times...
For example, they're using the south-facing slopes of hillsides this past weekend- more browse and a little warmer.
Also, they'll move later in the morning and better at midday.
Another tip... check areas with thermal cover, ie dense cedar stands on south-facing hills as well as pine

Agree Mega. I typically see a lot of daytime activity with extremely cold temperatures. There's no doubt in my mind that it stimulates feeding activity.

The few locations where I've been getting good daylight trail-cam pics are near cedar and pine thickets.
