I've been finding it VERY hard to find the motivation to get out in these temps we've been having and hunt the last 2 weeks of the season. I don't remember it being this cold at the end of the season for such a long stretch in years. And, yes, I know that it's a LOT colder up north. But if I wanted to live in that type of cold I would have moved up there. I'm used to our TN weather, and it's seldom this cold. OK, I'm whining a bit. I guess I'll get up tomorrow and get out in one last time this year... Brrrrrr!!!

If you force yourself to sit out there for several mornings, you'll kinda get used to it and it's a lot easier. It's the first couple of mornings that are tough.

When it gets this cold I stay on the ground in a pop up blind. Just keeping the wind off makes it easier for me to stay out in it.

I actually don't mind hunting in the frigid temps we've had for the last few days (19 degrees for the high yesterday). And to be honest, I kind of enjoy it, crazy as it may sound. Nobody's hunting and deer movement has been pretty good. I usually only hunt the afternoons, and the key is finding the late winter food sources.
Saw 10 this afternoon, including one small buck. Saw my first deer at 3:15 p.m., and movement was pretty steady until dark. The extended forecast is showing highs in the 20's all week on the Cumberland Plateau. If I didn't have to go back to work, I would definitely try to hunt a few more afternoons.

I agree Quailman. Went yesterday and hunted a field with some clover and the deer moved in steadily from 2:30 til dark.

We all got to acclimated to hunting in the abnormally warm temps earlier in the season. Now it makes it seem all the colder. I had all intentions of going this afternoon but just could not bring myself to go outside today.

Buy some good clothes and make yoursrlf go hunt. It has been excellent hunting since the cold set in all day long. I shot a nice 8 point on New Years day at 8:30am and shot another 8 point today at 4:45pm. I have seen deer moving all day long the last few days going to feed several times a day.

That's where premium hunting clothes come in handy...and placing your stands where the wind is at your back.

I upgraded to a better set of bibs and jacket (windproof, waterproof and better insulation), and noticed a big difference.
I also put some anti perspirant on my feet, I think that helped keep my feet from getting cold...along with boot blankets.
Now it's just a matter of trying to be where the deer are!

Well, All I have now is some lightweight clothes. Since my dog got hungry and ate my bibs.
So it's too cold for me nowdays. Otherwise, I would be right in the middle of it. great time of year!

Definitely. Had on my Columbia wool bibs and shirt, fleece neck gaiter, wool socks, warm gloves and hat. You definitely can't cut corners on cold weather clothes. The investment is worth it, if you want to hunt in this type of weather.

It isn't so much the cold that hs me hanging up the gun for the year, it is the lack of deer movement due to two months of hard hunting pressure.
If the deer were moving, I'd be hunting, even in these temps.

My trail cameras have kept me warm the past couple of weekends. No mature bucks moving during daylight.
If there were some moving, I'd be out there in my heater body suit warm as toast.

My cousin just called me. Hunted my farm this morning, 9 degrees with a 10mph wind; probably -10 wind chill.
He saw 5 does, 6 fawns and a 2.5 yr old 6ptr running a doe. Now there's one less doe out there
He said it was pretty uncomfortable on stand, though.

If I am dressed for it, it is never to cold to hunt...or just walk around for that matter...I love the cold and love to hunt in it.It seems to bring the kind of solitude I crave like no other conditions.... The cold doesn't bother me as bad as potential mishaps or eguipment malfunctions that could turn deadly. With cell phones its not as bad in some places as it once was. Deep in the mountains of the south Cherokee there are still lots of places that a situation could turn south pretty quick.... I like to hunt squirrles and bobcats after the deer season along the TN NC stateline..I had my rear brakes drums freeze up one time on 73 jeep cj5 when I was by myself, hours walking from anywhere, and at about 4 degrees. The motor could not break the brakes loose... Luckily I never throw trash out and I always have a fire source of somekind with me...I had to start at fire on the inside of the brake drums to help melt the ice and finally broke the ice by dropping the clutch..I guess I am lucky I didn't break a u-joint.... I used to hunt alot with a mod 19 S&W wheel gun..It got so cold one time that it wouldn't function due to the low temps. .. Theres nothin quite like gettin back to camp and breakin off ice cicles to use in a brown water drink...

Cold weather has them fired up in Stewart County, coming to green fields late, but too many slick heads, saw 38 does/fawns yesterday afternoon. 20 while duck hunting there today.

Good luck to those hunting this coming weekend. Morning temps should be in single digits if not near zero.
