Thought it would be interesting to hear who you feel is responsible for getting you started hunting and how they did it.
In 1976 I got a hand-me down 12 ga. pump shotgun from my Grandpa. I killed a many a squirrel, a few rabbits and my first buck with that gun. Although he wasn't able and I never stepped foot in the woods with him I hold him responsible for planting the seed that got me started hunting.

I like you started at a young age, yes rabbits, squirrels, qual, and dove. I was being raised by my Grandparents, mother being a single mom worked in Atlanta and she felt it best to leave me in the country with Papa. Thanks Mom...My Papa was my idiol, hero and so on. He was not a big game hunter but more of a fox and rabbit hunter. But he did know the woods and what it takes to be a good hunter. He did pass those traits down to me. As long as I can remember I was by his side. I guess at age 6 is when he cut me loose and it started for me. Papa you are truely missed...

My uncle carried me to a duckblind while I was in 2nd grade. It was more of a tag-along trip but I enjoyed it. He also took me on my first dove hunt using an old single shot Stevens 12ga that his grandfather left to him. Several years later, he introduced me to the serious level of waterfowling.
My dad got me started squirrel and deer hunting and took me on my first juvy hunt where I took a doe using the ole trusty .243. My dad bought me the fist .22 for my birthday.
Last but not least, was my granddad who introduced me to rabbit hunting. We took a few quail on several trips while running rabbits. He bought my very first shotgun, a 20ga. Then after a year or two, bought and swapped me a 12ga for the 20ga to use for rabbits and waterfowl.

it would be my middle son who in 2004 was 12.as a kid growing up in southern california you didnt get a lot of opportunities to hunt.i went a few times with a friend and killed a mulie and several coyotes but lost the taste for it almost as fast.in 2004 my wifes step dad took his them 11 year old daughter hunting to the farm and cody wanted to go to.only time we got to hunt that year because my work kept me out of town 300 days a year.in 2006 we hunted hard but early 2007 i tore up my hip and couldnt get out much till this year.im really hoping that we can tear it up next year,i sure do owe him.

Uncle got me started in Northern MI, 1987. Killed enough grouse and squirrels earlier, but '87 was my time for deer. He'd drop me off in a blind and go do his legal work in his car while I hunted. What a guy.....

Growing up I never really had anybody that was a big hunter in my life, but my grand daddy loved to fish. We fished all the time. As I got older and got married I hunted a little with friends, but never got real serious about it. Then several years later my boys came along and we kind of took it up. Mostly it was a way for me to spend time with them. I thought it would be good for them, give them a little character and something to do to keep them out of trouble. We started out just hunting whatever came along, not real smart hunting, but hunting none the less. As time went on, we got a little more serious with it and eventually we got ate up with it. So, I guess I blame my boys, but thats ok.........I still love to get out there with them whenever schedules allow us.

There isn't just one particular person that was responsible for getting me into hunting. It was more of a combined effort between my inlaws...2 uncles, 1 cousin, and a friend of the family (who is now family due to marriage).
One uncle told me stories of his small game hunts. He didn't hunt deer, because he could'nt stay still for too long and would rather hunt with dogs. He doesn't hunt anymore, but he still tells me of his hunts.
Another uncle and a cousin went hunting with me and gave me the basic info needed. What to look for, when/where to shoot, etc. I still hunt with the cousin, but the uncle doesn't hunt much.
The family friend took me squirrel hunting and showed me a few woodsman tips. He also let me hunt on his farm til he sold it. He doesn't hunt anymore, but we still talk hunting.
So those 4 people pretty much got me into hunting. And when we all get together at family dinners, holidays, etc, our conversation usually turns to hunting at some point.

My great uncle and his son started letting me tag along at the age of 7 and i was hooked. Killed my first deer on the juvy hunt with my dad, he had hunting but never killed a deer. I killed the deer and he said what do we now? I said walk back home and call uncle Ern, he will know what to do, been hooked ever since.

My dad and my papaw. I remember my first deer hunt i got to carry my dad's model 94 30-30. It's in my vault now and i still get it out every season.

My wife's Grandad gave me a shotgun with 3 3" mag slugs and told me where to set up. I killed a small 3 point and I was hooked for LIFE.
Bertman has also been a huge influence and hunting partner from that same time period.

My Dad. BB guns, 22's and a 410. Shooting everything that moved and wasnt domesticated for the most part lol

My grandfather was a big pheasant and rabbit hunter in his youth in PA, but had pretty much given it up when he moved to VA. He got me into fishing at age 2 or 3 and I was hooked. We went all the time. He would tell me stories about hunting and I always wanted to do it. My dad got me a BB gun when i was 12 and I would shoot just about anything that moved. We moved here when i was 16 and there was plenty of places to go and my dad couldn't hold me back anymore. Took the safety course and started hunting. Been hooked ever since.

I guess i was myself in a way. i won a 30-30 for selling magazines in the FFA in highschool and that started it all...1974.

My dad. We started off squirrel and rabbit hunting when I was about 5, but he also took me along with him deer hunting starting when I was about 6. We also dove hunted some and fished alot.I carried pellet guns and 22's the whole time I was growing up around the farm and shot about everything that would stop long enough.

My Papa got me and my dad going...He hade a double barrel 20 ga. that he had me shoot both at the same time...just incase i ever did it on accident he would know i could handle it..lol..Man i wish he could be here to see how much better the hunting is getting and how much better we all are getting at hunting...RIP PAPA...
Since his passing when i was 11 i have been trying to get others involved in the outdoors...And just 2 years ago i got 2 of my buddys and my bro all on there first deer...ITs ALMOST as fun to see your friend shoot 1...
