I greeted the new year in the stand this morning - didn't see a one, moon was full and the wind was blowing hard. Think that kept the deer on their beds, or was I just in the wrong place at the wrong time?

Many people will tell you that hunting a full moon is useless.
I disagree, I have killed some good bucks on the full moon. Normally, however, if it is going to happen it will happen EARLY. I usually hunt about an hour and a half in the mornings and the same in the evenings.
I usually kill very early in the morning or the last couple of minutes of the evening.
Many times I don't see anything though.
Wind just sucks period. I have my best luck hunting high winds still hunting around, along logging roads or peeping over into fields. I think they like to get out in the middle of fields where they can see better since their smell is diminished somewhat due to scent being scattered so badly and EVERYTHING in the woods is moving constantly.

Dickson, I wasn't too far from you - off 100 west of Fairview. on the stand at six-thirty, finally got cold and went home about nine; just went to Wal-Mart for some thicker insulated thermals and will try again tomorrow, starting midmorning.
