armes chapel area. i was watching two smaller bucks when i notice them looking toward me but a little to my right. then all of a sudden they started my way and was watching something the whole time. I figured a doe came out and that was what they was watching. They disappeared into a small hollow and next thing i know, they was right below me in the edge of the field but with a bigger buck so i waited on the bigger buck to give me broadside shot and out of the way of the others. Finally i got the shot i was looking for and letter fly. Watched him hit the ground hard. I started down toward him to see just exactly how big he was and was watching the other two bucks run off and all of a sudden this sucker is headed down the little holler, pushing himself with his hind legs, like his shoulders are busted up. So I found were I shot him and began tracking him make it the edge of the field were there is some thick briars and weeds and lose tracks for about 15-20yards but pick them right up in an old road heading down the hollar. As I was getting next to the woods I heard a deer run off just ahead of me, so i thought it may be a marginal hit so I back out. I contemplated on it for awhile and went back around 8:30pm couldn't stand it anymore, Nothing no blood just a few tracks and that was it. By this time I was thinking the hey has happened so I go back again and still nothing. So thursday evening I went back for the last time and retraced were I found the last tracks back to were I shot him at. So I decided to look one more place I thought he may have gone. I took a shortcut through the thick stuff and just about stepped on him. He went about 60 yards after I shot him. Come to find out, to the best of my knowlegde he took a hard right when he entered the thick briars and weeds next to the woods and went about 30 yards and piled up in the mix of all that stuff. The tracks I followed was from a 4th deer that I didn't know was there. I knew for a fact that those tracks I was following was them of the deer I shot, I thought. That really really sucks. I hate to lose a deer especially when you know he is hit hard. This is the bad part of hunting but it will happen every now and then
