7mag bullet projection is funny, will shoot dead on target at 400 yds. but tends to be high at 200 yds. Best way to get it perfect is to shoot at targets at 100,200,300,400 yds. Then you will know exactly what it is doing. Ive shot the 7MM Rem Mag bullets now for 10 yrs or more, the bullet leaves the barrel and will rise to about the 200yd mark. I have always aimed dead on target up to 400 yds and sighted it in dead on also at 100 yds.

If your gun (7mm with 160 grn bullet) is zeroed for 1 inch high at 100 yards, you should still be well within the kill zone at 200 to 250, matter of fact you should have hit him very well! I also zero my 7 mag at 1 inch high at 100 yards and have no trouble out to 300 yards.

Shoot the rifle just to make sure that you didnt knock your scope around without you knowing. If it shoots good then it was probably just a case of buck fever.
