Hopefully heading out this weekend. Anybody have any tactical suggestions for hunting deep woods, after rut, in the cold (not that cold)?
Many Thanks

Find the main food source and sit there all day.

Thicker the better, staging ares before he heads out into the fields to feed.

To narrow it down a bit, I believe I'd look for a thicket bordering a hardwood ridge somewhere if I could find one, and set up 50-100 yds out on the ridge somewhere, wind permitting, and wait on them to emerge from the thicket to feed.

Good advice. I took what I believe to be an at least 4.5 year old 8 point yesterday morning @ 9:20 with the exact setup. He was heading to the clear cut to bed. I think he was 4.5 due to body size shape and the fact that I let a buck go in the same spot 2 years ago that matched the rack config (2.5 then.) He scored 105 as a 6 point (2 short points) and only a 14" spread. EXTREMELY HEAVY AND TALL. His backbone was showing due to the weight loss during the rut, but I could still barely move him..lol.

All sound like good suggestions. If I had a four leaf clover wouldn't hurt to carry it along with you. Tough hunting this time of year especially in deep woods.

Sleep late. Don't go to the woods until the frost starts to burn off. Then look for transition, places where pines meet hardwood or thicket meets hardwood. Concentrate on midday, 10-2 activity.
But what the he11 do I know?

I'm surprised, but I'm still getting trail-cam pictures of bucks at traditional scrapes. Although almost all of those being used are close to thick cover.
