shot a decent buck (aroung 15" spread) this evening right before dark. Knocked it down, saw it doing the death kick right. next thing i know the dang thing was headed down the holler pushing its upper front half with its hind legs. from the tracks it looks like it got back on its front leg(s) and ran out a ridge so i backed out. never had one do this before. any ideas what or where i may have hit it. going back in the morning to look for it.

i walked to where i saw it last but not much thats when i heard it run out the ridge so i left. the last thing i wanted to do was push the deer after what i thought was a good shot. from the tracks look it was carrying one of its front legs.

I say you have a dead deer.Sounds to me like you broke his front shoulders and he was bulldozing..I've had serveral do this before,push their front half with their hind legs,usually from a shoulder shot.. I wouldn't worry much..Where was you aiming?

Tough call.
I shot a doe at close range once with a rifle and she did that. Went down and bulldozed for about 50 yds and flopped over and started kicking. About 5 minutes later she stood up and started walking off. I was trying to shoot at her agian but it was too thick. She staggered about 50 more yards and keeled over.
Her lungs were toast. No idea why she lived as long as she did but she did!

Almost sounds more like a high hit under the spine.a lot of those deer go down for a while then get back up and are never found.hope cecil is right.If he is then it won't be far.
