Just had a question. Called twra last year to question legality and fair chase on high fenced deer. What keeps these deer from becoming inbred over a period of time?

There's enough genetic diversity in your average everyday TN deer to last 15-20 generations before that becomes a concern...

Perhaps after 25 years of highfence, you MIGHT have a problem...

But the guys I know with highfences are also in well with local game officials and will bring in orphaned (rescued) fawn bucks/does from other areas of the state on occasion to increase diversity.

Sure, it has yet to be seen... because it HASN'T been seen. Once again, there is enough genetic diversity in the average whitetail to be without any concern for 15-20 generations.

Most of the deer are either linebred or inbred. Aint no biggie. But of course, when you concentrate them, that's a different deal.

No different than a hunting dogs...Most of them are inbred. Thats why you need a cast net to catch some of them..

And I know for a fact that a lot of bigger ranches with high fences artificially impregnate these deer usually with breeder buck semen from some trophy deer somewhere else... I watched a guy do the whole operation in Tx it was pretty neat... But this always help keep new genetics in the herd...
