Has to be layed flat............... Not true. Mine works upright or laying flat.
Mine too...sometimes I just tie the tree stand strap (extra strapping after fastening the stand to the tree) around it and let it hang. I've even laid it on the ground underneath. If it's too close to you it's possible that it will give you a headache...at least I think that's what it was and not the beer from the night before

I have been carrying one for at least 5 years. When they first came out I was hunting South Carolina swamps in August and September. The little critters would absolutely eat you alive even with a bug suit. I tried that and never had any more problems, it was unbelievable. I love em

I hunt the Hatchie river bottoms, and the skeeters are absolute monsters there. It would be tough to hunt there without the Thermacell during early season. My only complaint is that it takes a good 3 or 4 minutes to really get the skeeters off of me after I fire it up. The Thermacell works in either position, but Thermacell says to use it laying flat because using it in the upright position can damage it it because of the heat flowing over the plastic parts. It's in the manual.

Thgis has been mentioned in several posts on different forums but I'll post it here as well. When you get ready to buy refills on the fuel cartridges Walmart carries them in the hair products section under "Con Air" hair curlers. They come in a 2 pack and are the very same cartridges you buy in the hunting section but alot cheaper. This only applies to the fuel cartridge refills and not the pads. I always seem to go through more fuel than pads.
