It is possible...I guess.
Heaviest Whitetail
On a cold November day in 1926, Carl Lenander Jr. dropped a monstrous Minnesota buck with a single shot. Field-dressed, the deer weighed 402 pounds. The state Conservation Department calculated its live weight to be 511 pounds. No heavier whitetail deer has ever been recorded.

WOW..You guys are right,it just don't look real, but I do guess its possible...Definatly a high fence deer, how could someone actually kill it and then sit behind it and smile for a picture...Pretty sad IMO.....

I have seen all those pictures many times. Some for a couple years. I have yet to hear the name of any hunter in the photos. The deer in that last picture has been killed in at least six states.

maybe a better term than fake would be unnatural.
a deer in the wild would never get this fat simply because Nature would not allow it.....
a fenced in deer, corn fed...etc. MIGHT......but a free range never, never, IMO>

The old "big fish arm-stretch" illusion on some of those photos. Example, hold the fish way out in front of you in a photo and it looks a lot bigger. The guys with the elk are way behind it...you see it a lot in bear pix and the famous hawg pix, too. But that first photo, dunno. Deer almost looks like a funhouse mirror in the mid-section. Could be a fish-eye lens, could be real...but kind of doubt it...dunno.

Just a couple other observations that seem "unnatural":
1) Note there is no apparent wound nor is there any blood on the ground or the deer.
2) Note the guy holding the deer. Does he look like a deer hunter to you?

Just something i stumbled across
From what we can gather, the heaviest whitetail ever shot was killed by a bow-hunter, John Annett of Ontario, in 1977. The deer field dressed 431 pounds on government-certified scales. That would have given it an estimated live weight of more than 540 pounds. However, reports indicate the buck was butchered before Canadian authorities could inspect it.
Second place seemingly belongs to a 402-pound Minnesota buck killed by Carl Lenander Jr. in 1926. Conservation officials estimated the live weight at 511 pounds.
Third place would go to a Maine buck killed by Horace R. Hinckley in 1955. Hinckley reportedly spent three days searching for a scale large enough to properly weigh his buck. With a Maine Sealer of Weights witness present, the buck officially tipped the scales at 355 pounds, giving it a live weight of 451 pounds. Hinckley’s buck had a 28-inch neck girth and a 56-inch chest girth.

How can a guy say " a deer could never get that big"??? Humans can hit 500,600,700 lbs!! When dealing with nature, I rarely will use the word never, because nature and animals beat to their own drummers not by what we as humans think. A 400 lb whitetail is not by any means inconceivable, rare..yes but not impossible.

Cause deer aren't humans. Sure a deer can get that big...but not in the wild.

I don't doubt a deer could reach that weight so I feel it could be legit although it does "look" unrealistic.

I actually don't think that one was photo shopped. It was, however, hand fed. That deer is of a sub species that can get huge. Then add the sterhoids and high nutriton food and you can get a deer that size.
Now if they would decided what state it was killed in.

I believe it. I saw a buck, while walking out from bow hunting in Columbia, MO that was easily 375 on hoof. Didn't have any but a basket rack, though. It's size was like a horse.
I am certain that this buck I saw was never seen, except during the night.

Bucks are killed every year that field dress in the 300+ range while not your average deer they absolutely exist in the wild.
