What is the word on these motors? Are they the same exact motor as a Yamaha? I have read on the net where these motors are the same. I'm not for sure though. I may be getting a larger hunting/fishing boat and the boat has a Suzuki motor.

Check for location of dealers. Might be fine now, but years ago it wasn't. I had one (25 HP) about 10 years ago and had some problems and couldn't find a dealer in the state...had my choice of Paducah KY or Huntsville AL.

Sold the motor.

Got a buddy in Beaufort that has had ALL kinds of fuel problems with the 150. It's not Ethanol before someone has a knee jerk reaction. It's in the fuel pump. Multiple calls, and finally had to have a rep come in from TX and install an aircraft fuel pump to take care of the problem. But it was a year with all kinds of fuel starvation issues.

Brand new boat with motor problems - Very frustrating. Model70, go down to the coast and look what is the dominant engine...Yamaha. IF those engines can take the crap salt dishes out, then they should be able to handle this freshwater without problems.

Nope, not true. I can't speak on Suzuki's two-cycle motors as there really are not enough of them around on this end of the state to compare against other brands, but their 4-strokes are good.......quiet and reliable. When Mercury and OMC started in the 4-stroke business years ago, Yamaha made Mercury's and Suzuki made OMC's.
Second place is just the first loser!

I may be wrong, but I think Suzuki still makes all johnson 4-stroke engines. I know they did a couple of years ago. I think mercury bought all technology from yamaha, and now is made by mercury, but still basically a yamaha. If your talking about a four stroke engine, I know lots of people who own mercury, johnson, suzuki, yamaha and honda and I have heard very, very few complaints about any. If I got a good deal on any of the above, I wouldn't think twice about buying. Just my 2 cents worth.

I don't know who makes what. I have 3 Yamaha's and have no trouble. One of the reasons I bought yamaha was watching the fishing and outdoor shows on tv all or most boats were running Yamaha. If it runs in Alaska it should do ok here.
You done tooken a wrong turn.

I can tell you for sure that I fished Florida with a buddy of mine and he had a Suzuki. All kinds of problems with the brand new motor. I have been running yamaha's and love them. Both fresh and salt water. Never had a single problem with the yamahas.

We have a Suzuki 4 stroke on our 21 sea pro bay boat. 8 years and almost no problems. Boat is moored in a salt water environment. Regular maintainance and a clogged fuel filter so far.

Suzukies are a lot cheaper than Yamahas are. I've seen both and heard great things on both. On my boat I run twin Yamahas due to being offshore alot. But I sure see a lot of Suzukies running around. There are not many mechanics though if you do have an issue. Be sure to get the 6 yr warranty.
