Anybody hear about state record largemouth shocked up the other day by fisheries crew...? Said to be 16-5.

There is a big deal about the "small" state lake being "unnamed", to protect the lake from pressure??? Not sure I understand that, with license sales being a goal of TWRA. But the report is it is in West Tennessee and has been managed for trophy bass for quite a while.

More details here (courtesy of Larry Rea), and a photo from TWRA:

http://www.chattanoogan.com/articles/article_161452.asp

TWRA hasn't named the lake... I'm sure they don't want it to be overrun. But I have feeling the word will leak out. I've heard some talk about Lake Graham... however that is completely UNCONFIRMED!

My GUESS is Brown's Creek...80 acres. (a dark horse in the race).
But it could just as easily be Graham and/or Gibson.
Graham was the contender for years, then Gibson became THE spot.
Suprised they did't break the record at Gibson when the water was so low for so long...

I think all three have been stocked with Floridas...

Good call taylor!

Rea has now confirmed that the fish came from Brown's Creek Lake, a 167-acre lake located in Henderson County about 10 miles from I-40 in the Natchez Trace State Park.

It is no wake but you can use your motor. Browns can be hard to fish if you dont know the lake. Structure is hard to find but the big fish are there. Hopefully there wont be a dozen boats the next time I go. Its usally peaceful out there.

What's the state record? I thought it was much bigger. We ate a 15.3 last week.

The bass -- if caught by an angler -- would easily break the existing state record of 14 pounds, 8 ounces caught in Sugar Creek in Lawrence County on Oct. 17, 1954. It is the oldest existing state record and ironically the fish "shocked" came within four days of the 55th anniversary of James 'Logue' Barnett's state record.

So Larry 'fessed up. lol.

Didn't realize Brown's was that big, 167 acres, thought it was closer to 80-100. Maybe I was thinking of another one of those lakes, Maple, maybe...? Brown's is a pretty spot, I have never seen that many boats on it. Doesn't seem like that long since they drained and started over with it, probably longer than I think, though.

Live bait count? I know it doesn't in tournaments.

Sure, it counts.
A lot of those record-book bass in Cali are caught on live bait.

A world record (for a while) catfish, caught in MS River between TN and Ark., was sacked on SPAM. Why not go for the mystery meat trifecta...and sack world record slab crappie on pickle loaf?

Bedford Lake has State records in it as well. They have shocked one or two in it in the past 3-4 years. It is only 46 acres.

I'm not sure about fish in Brown's Creek Lake, but I sure love chasing all the turkeys around there.

I wish they would stock some of those FL strain bass up here in East TN lakes where trout are stocked on a regular basis, we would be seeing alot more monsters, as for the case in Casitas, Castiac, and all the West Coast Cali waters. They are catching LM bass around 20 lbs almost every year.
...just a late night thought of bringing one in that size one day

I wonder what the crowd (if any) has been like at the lake?

(that might be a good story, there).

I sure wanted to go up and open a stand selling Big Darn Minners and Xtra Large Crawfish. But if the consumers are not there, in a bad economy, my portable bait shop might need a government bail-out, and quick!

I have fished there many times and been the only person on the lake. It is loaded with bass and black crappie. I once released a sub-legal crappie and watched a 10 pound plus largemouth swim underneath it and then nail it. The crappie was 9 1/2 inches.

It was about 20 years ago that they drained Browns Creek.

All of those watershed lakes are good lakes in one way or another. And yeah, Browns Creek is COVERED in turkeys. \:\)

Brown's is just up the road a little piece and BoWriter is right.
Ain't no fish there. I really believe it came from Graham/Gibson Co.

Brown's Creek has some good fish in it. I fished it quite a bit last year for the first time and was usually one of the only boats on the lake. The others that were there, were trolling for crappie.

Here's a Brown's Creek fish from last year. It was the only bass in the lake. Now, there are no more fish in the lake.
