I went down to Thomaston, GA, to fish with some old college buddies. I realized when I got down there that I had forgotten my trolling motor. I borrowed a buddy's motor. It didn't quite fit on my boat correctly without my normal mount which I left at home, so I just had to be careful with it.

When the lightning storm came, I completely forgot about the weak trolling motor mount, cranked up the boat motor and hauled azz. I didn't realize until much later that the trolling motor must have fallen off. Somehwere down there in the depths of Lake Bucketmouth is Minn Kota Point! \:D Had to go to Wallyworld at 1 am to buy my friend a new trolling motor.

There were these powerlines over the pond, and I kept forgetting they were overhead. I hung three expensive crankbaits on those dern wires. I guess that's just stupid tax. They were actually my friend's lures, so who's really the stupid one? \:D

Of course, it wouldn't be a trip if I didn't break a fly rod, too.

I actually caught the grass carp on a pellet fly, pulled it out and inserted a streamer for pictures. The things writers do to try to make things look pure! The funny thing is, even with the pellet flies, I only had two takes (I missed the other one) in three days. It weren't all dat EZ.

The fishing was pretty slow, but we ate a mess of small largemouth.

Funny story...
The grassie barely pulled at all - it was like reeling in a brick...

UNTIL....

I got him in and got the Boga Grip on him, and he completely freaked out. He broke my line, and I somehow dropped the Boga. I watched him swim away with my fly and My Boga. I was soooooo ticked (Bogas are expensive!!!)

I noticed he stopped in 2 feet of water and just hung there.
I waded in and slowly crept up behind him, reached down, and grabbed the Boga which was still in his mouth. I guess he was too tired to notice.

He freaked out again and got me drenched, but I held on this time.I can't believe I got the fish, the Boga and the fly back. 1 in a million!

I watched a big flathead swim away with a pair of imitation Boga Grips still stuck in his jaw when I let a client "release" the fish.

We were in 25 feet of water... not much chance of "retrieval." I always wonder what happened to that fish?

Yeah, I've been meaning to do that. I have seen them with one of those styrofoam noodles cut to fit and threaded on some string. Is that the preferred method?

By the way, I thread one of those on the end of my anchor lines when river fishing. If I get hung up and have to unhook my anchor, I can go back and find it because the end is floating.
