Hey guys, the season is here and already there's talk of shutting down our hunting camp because of a 10 yrd long mud spot on our logging Rd.Here's the story,The landowner paid good money and had a guy bring in his dozer and fixed/regraded our Rd to our Fields.Well the one spot that held water is holding it again after all the rains we had in the past two weeks.I dug 4 trenches and let the water drain, only a 2 ft spot of water reamins..BUT as we all know it WILL rain again (This week they are calling for it all week! ) and yes the landowner will shut the rd down and thats it for our hunting to drag a deer from where i hunt, well i'd be dead by the time i got back...So here's my question,i'm thinking of all crazy things..LOL.. One is if i buy bags of concrete and pour it over that water and mud will it hardened up enough to drive over? How about 2*4's can they be laid side by side and driven over? Dont know how much a load of gravel would cost to be delivered..I'm up for what you guys think, have you had to fix your rds??Juvi weekend is just around the corner and i hate to tell lil man "we wont be hunting"... \:\(

temporary fix is to lay down the boards as you mentioned, we have done this many times in the past at Chaney while logging a wet area

the permanent fix is to use large rocks between the size of lemons and grapefruits, bricks will work also, just keep filling the mud spot with a much as possible, do not take the mud out of the hole before dumping the fill material in the hole

I was given the above idea by an older gentleman who I have trusted for many years, this is now the only way that I fix the mud holes at Chaney

also putting in gravel with the fine sandy material that comes with a load of gravel just will not work as well as a load of larger rock with no fine material

get it as smooth a possible when you fill with rocks/bricks, it will amaze you as to when the mud mixes with the rock/bricks that it will get as hard as concrete

at the same time, once the hole gets firm you can then cover with layer of gravel to help smooth out bumps

w/o seeing it if you can trench deep enough to lay some black drain pipe to where it will let the water drain out to the sides of the roads that way when it rains it will just go down the pipe and not puddle up good luck

Is there a railroad or Lowes around. If you can find some cross ties to lay down they will work better than 2x4's. Cross ties then large gravel or chirt .
