Anyone have any tips on turkey hunting w/ a bow?
I have a boss gobbler that got away from me 3x in the spring and I'm determined to stick him. Are any calls useful or should I pretty much rely on a spot/stalk setup?

carry a good luck charm with you

you talkin about huntin during the deer archery or the fall qouta gun hunt?

the best way to go about it is to bust em up bright and early while they are on roost and try and scatter em real good. then call em back. it took me three yrs to kill my first fall bird.
check out youtube they had some good fall turkey huntin vids that explained it a lil better.

Good luck
If he was hard to kill in the spring he will be just as hard to kill in the fall!

I don't really hunt turkeys in the fall but if one walks past my stand during bow season, I don't mind taking a shot at it

Bust em up and then attempt to call them back to you.

Bust the flock, hunker down (blind or tree stand), kee-kee them back.

Pretty fun!

Very challenging.

I have had little luck busting up long beards and calling them back. This works great on a hen and its youngins. Best way I believe to kill a long beards is similiar to spring hunting without using the sexy calls. Mature gobbler and hen yelps work ok. Often come in silent.

Them old gobblers are harder to me in the fall than the spring. Even if you bust a gobbler flock up it is not guaranteed they'll even come back to you like a flock of hens and poults would. Gobblers could care less if they got company in the winter. I got one flock of 38 bearded birds on our lease right now and I'd rather go chase a hen who messed up my spring hunts as them. I have killed longbeards in the fall and it is pure luck everytime. If I know the gobbler flock is in the area I try to find em a few days before and see what they are doing and then set up and do gobbler clucks and yelps. They MIGHT yelp back as they come but 99% of the time they are gonna come in quiet. Heck, if you can hit a good sunny warm winter day and season is open you might even get one fired up enough to gobble.

I'd say bust em up to kill a "turkey"But a gobbler u got me never killed one in the fall.Hunters around here have really slowed down on the fall hunts. The last few years you could just go by tags.
